This role requires the “wit” to navigate early-stage dementia and anxiety through vibrant conversation, and the “grit” to maintain high reliability for a senior recovering from a hip injury. Job Details
Employer: Private Family (via NannyServices.ca).
Location: Near St. Clair West Subway, Toronto, ON (5-minute walk).
Status: Part-time (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays).
Schedule & Pay: * Mon/Tue: 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM ($100 cash; 45-min break).
Friday: 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM ($50 cash).
Target Audience: 87-year-old male with a walker (post-hip fracture) and early dementia.
Key Responsibilities: The “Active Engagement” Cycle
Your primary goal is to stimulate the client’s mind and body to improve his overall quality of life.
Dynamic Companionship: Engage in genuine, high-quality conversation to stimulate the client’s cognitive functions and reduce feelings of depression or isolation.
Mobility Supervision: Accompany the client on walks within his apartment building hallway, ensuring safe use of his walker and preventing falls.
Meal Service: Prepare and serve lunch, ensuring the client receives proper nutrition in a social, relaxed atmosphere.
Emotional Support: Utilize a “vibrant personality” to help manage the client’s anxiety and foster a positive, supportive environment.
Reliability & Routine: Arrive punctually to provide the consistent structure that is essential for seniors with early-stage dementia.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
The “Social Specialist”: Someone whose personality is their greatest tool—warm, dynamic, and genuinely interested in elderly narratives.
Communicative Wit: Exceptional English communication skills to bridge the gaps caused by early memory loss and anxiety.
Punctual Grit: A “high reliability” mindset; the family depends on your presence to maintain the client’s mental health.
Empathetic Demeanor: The ability to remain patient and encouraging when the client is struggling with depression or confusion.
Experience: While years of nursing aren’t required, a basic understanding of walker safety and dementia communication is expected.
Technical Insights: Hip Recovery & Early Dementia
Supporting an 87-year-old with a history of hip fractures and cognitive change involves specific “Safety & Social” protocols.
Walker Mechanics & Gait: You will monitor the client’s “Center of Gravity.” After a hip break, seniors often lean forward; you will provide verbal cues to help him stand tall and keep the walker at the correct distance.
Validation in Early Dementia: Instead of correcting memory lapses, you will use “Validation Therapy”—acknowledging the client’s feelings to lower his anxiety and prevent “Recursive Thinking” loops.
Fall Prevention in Hallways: Hallway walks are excellent for exercise but require “Stand-By Assistance” (SBA). You will walk slightly behind and to the side of his weaker hip to provide a steadying hand if needed.
Nutrition & Mood: Ensuring the client eats a consistent lunch. Dehydration or low blood sugar can often mimic increased dementia symptoms or trigger anxiety spikes in the elderly.
Why Choose This Midtown Role?
This position offers a straightforward, low-stress caregiving environment with a focus on human connection.
Prime Location: Just a 5-minute walk from the St. Clair West subway station, making for an easy commute from anywhere in Toronto.
Minimal Physical Labor: Unlike many PSW roles, this position focuses on “Social Support” rather than heavy lifting or intensive personal care tasks.
Consistent Income: A stable weekly schedule with immediate cash payment for your time and expertise.
Meaningful Connection: The opportunity to build a deep bond with an individual, seeing the direct impact your “vibrant personality” has on his mental health.

Company & Location
NannyServices.ca is Canada’s premier digital marketplace for domestic care, with its primary operations and a massive user base centered in Toronto and throughout Ontario. Since its launch in 2008, it has evolved from a local startup into the market leader, hosting a database of over 300,000 reviewed profiles. While it operates as a nationwide platform, its presence is particularly dense in Ontario’s major urban centers including Mississauga, Ottawa, Hamilton, and London. The organization functions as a tech-enabled bridge, bypassing traditional agency models to allow families to directly source child care, senior support, and specialized household help (such as tutors and pet sitters) within their specific postal codes.
Culture
The culture at NannyServices.ca is defined by Self-Empowerment, Direct Communication, and Transparency. Driven by a mission to provide “affordable and trustworthy care,” the platform’s internal and external philosophy focuses on removing the “middleman.” This creates a culture of accountability, where both families and caregivers are encouraged to build trust through verified reviews, background checks, and open dialogue.
For the caregivers using the platform in Ontario, the environment is one of professional independence and flexibility; they are empowered to manage their own “personal brands,” set their own competitive rates, and choose families that align with their specific skill sets—whether that involves ECE-certified childcare or specialized palliative support. The organization fosters a “Safety-First” mindset, providing comprehensive online resources and secure messaging tools to ensure that every match is made with confidence and informed consent.
