This role requires the “wit” to manage noctural “responsive behaviors” common in memory care and the “grit” to commit to a consistent Saturday and Sunday night schedule. Job Details
Employer: Qualicare Homecare (Great Place to Work® Certified).
Location: Dupont St. & Avenue Rd., Toronto, ON.
Status: Part-time (Weekend Nights: Saturday and Sunday).
Commitment: Must be available every weekend.
Salary: $19.00 per hour (based on similar Qualicare postings).
Key Responsibilities: The “Night Continuity” Cycle
Night shifts in home care focus on safety, evening wind-down, and early morning preparedness.
Evening & Morning Routines: Assist with “sundowning” transitions in the evening and provide initial morning care, including hygiene and dressing.
Dementia Monitoring: Provide specialized support for clients with Alzheimer’s or Dementia, managing nighttime wandering or confusion with patience.
Safety & Ambulation: Assist the client with nighttime mobility (e.g., trips to the bathroom) to prevent falls in low-light conditions.
Medication & Health: Provide accurate medication reminders and monitor for any changes in the client’s physical or mental state overnight.
Documentation: Maintain precise charting to provide the daytime care team with a clear picture of the client’s sleep quality and nighttime health.

The “Night Owl” Professional: Someone who thrives on a nocturnal schedule and possesses a calm, steady presence during quiet hours.
Dementia Wit: Proven experience managing Dementia/Alzheimer’s; specifically, an understanding of sleep-wake cycle disturbances.
Technical Grit: Holds a PSW Certificate or equivalent (Foreign-Trained Nurse or Nursing Student with 1+ year of training).
Compliance: Current CPR/First Aid, a clear Vulnerable Sector Screening, and a negative TB test are required.
Technical Insights: The Overnight Care Framework
Supporting a client with Dementia during night hours requires a technical approach to “Circadian Support.”
Managing Sundowning: You will implement environmental triggers—such as adjusting lighting or reducing noise—to help “reset” the client’s internal clock and reduce evening agitation.
Nocturnal Fall Prevention: Because balance is often compromised at night, you will utilize “Bed Alarms” or specialized lighting to ensure you are immediately present if the client attempts to stand.
Sleep Hygiene Protocols: Encouraging non-pharmacological sleep aids, such as consistent routines or gentle companionship, to improve rest quality for the senior.
Rapid Response: In a private home at night, you act as the “First Responder.” You must be proficient in identifying signs of acute distress (e.g., respiratory changes or sudden confusion) and following emergency protocols.
