Employer: Home Instead – West Toronto.
Location: West Toronto, Ontario (Area of 1181 Davenport Rd).
Status: Starts Part-time; potential for Full-time (15–40 hours per week).
Salary: $17.00 per hour.
Requirements: Legally able to work in Canada; fully vaccinated.
Schedule: Must be available for 2 weekends per month.
Key Responsibilities: The “Aging with Dignity” Cycle
You provide non-medical interventions that transform a senior’s quality of life and safety at home.
Personal Care & Hygiene: Assist with high-sensitivity tasks including bathing, grooming, toileting, and incontinence care with total respect for the client’s privacy.
Nutritional & Domestic Support: Perform light housekeeping and prepare healthy meals to maintain a safe, sanitary, and functional living environment.
Companionship & Cognition: Engage in meaningful conversation and provide specialized support for clients living with Dementia or Alzheimer’s.
Health Logistics: Provide vital medication and appointment reminders, along with accompaniment for errands and medical visits.
Palliative Care: Offer specialized comfort and emotional support for clients in the final stages of life.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
The “Compassionate Professional”: Someone with a natural inclination for caregiving, whether through professional work or personal family experience.
Emotional Wit: The ability to communicate effectively with seniors who may be experiencing cognitive decline or physical frustration.
Reliability Grit: A disciplined approach to your schedule, ensuring that seniors who depend on you for essential tasks are never left without support.
Preferred Background: While a PSW (Personal Support Worker) certificate is preferred, it is not mandatory for candidates with significant relevant experience.
Technical Insights: The Home Care Framework
Caregiving in 2026 relies on a blend of “Activities of Daily Living” (ADLs) and cognitive stimulation.
ADL & IADL Support: You will assist with ADLs (Bathing/Dressing) and IADLs (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living like meal prep and medication reminders), which are the benchmarks for independent living.
Dementia Care Protocols: You will implement “Validation Therapy” or “Redirection” techniques to manage the behavioral symptoms of memory loss without causing distress.
