Job Overview: Summer Student Worker (Public Areas Attendant)

Grand Canyon Education is hiring a Summer Student Worker to serve as a Public Areas Attendant at the GCU Hotel in Phoenix, AZ. This role is a vital part of the hotel’s “Rooms Division,” focusing on the first impression guests receive when they enter the property. You will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetic of all shared spaces, from the lobby and hallways to the pool area.

This position is exclusively for current GCU students and requires full availability throughout the summer season. It is an excellent opportunity to gain professional hospitality experience within the university ecosystem.


Key Responsibilities & Environmental Standards

Public Space Maintenance

  • Comprehensive Cleaning: Perform dusting, vacuuming, and waste removal in all public sectors of the hotel.

  • Sanitation & Stocking: Ensure all public restrooms are sanitized and fully stocked with necessary supplies throughout the shift.

  • Outdoor Upkeep: Maintain the “curb appeal” of the property by picking up ground litter and keeping the pool area tidy and organized.

  • Property Assistance: Support the general management and maintenance technicians with light property maintenance tasks as requested.

Guest Interaction & Professionalism

  • The GCU Greeting: Acknowledge and greet every guest in public spaces with a warm, friendly, and professional demeanor.

  • Hospitality Liaison: Remain available for guest inquiries while performing cleaning duties, acting as a helpful resource for those staying at the hotel.

  • Independent Execution: Work effectively with minimal supervision, ensuring all cleaning standards are met within established time limits.


Requirements & Eligibility

GCU Student Status (Mandatory)

  • Enrollment: Must be a full-time student in a Bachelors or Masters program at Grand Canyon University.

  • Academic Standing: Maintain a 2.0 GPA (Bachelors) or 3.0 GPA (Masters) and remain in good financial/academic standing (SAP).

  • Availability: Must be available to work the entire Summer duration (through the anticipated end date of June 30, 2025).

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: At least one year of experience in customer service or the hospitality industry is required.

  • Communication: Must be fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking).

  • Schedule: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary.

  • Detail Orientation: A strong eye for detail to ensure the hotel meets 3-diamond-level cleanliness standards.


Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Stamina: Standing and walking for 4–8 hours per day.

  • Physical Effort: Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and bending.

  • Dexterity: Continuous fine eye-to-hand coordination is required.

  • Environment: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, subject to Phoenix summer temperatures, weather variations, equipment noise, and dust.
