Job Summary: Windows Endpoint Infrastructure Engineer
World Wide Technology (WWT) is seeking a senior Windows Endpoint Infrastructure Engineer to support a leading Global Financial Services client. This is a high-level contract role designed for a “strong troubleshooter” who can navigate the complexities of a massive enterprise environment (50,000+ endpoints).
You will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of Windows solutions, from initial architecture and OS hardening to post-production support and automation.
Key Responsibilities
-
Endpoint Engineering: Design, build, and maintain enterprise-grade Windows endpoint solutions at a massive scale.
-
Automation & Scripting: Use PowerShell and Python to automate routine tasks, deployments, and remediation workflows.
-
Security Integration: Implement and manage tools within the Microsoft E5 security ecosystem, specifically focusing on Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.
-
Complex Troubleshooting: Act as a Tier 3/4 escalation point, resolving deep-seated issues across the hardware, OS, network, and storage layers.
-
Infrastructure Management: Oversee disk encryption, OS hardening, and the continuous improvement of the platform.
-
DevOps/SRE Collaboration: Work within Agile teams to deliver infrastructure as code and align with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles.
Role Details
-
Contract Type: 12-Month Contract (Outside IR35).
-
Location: Glasgow, Scotland (Hybrid: 2 days onsite per week).
-
Client Sector: Global Financial Services.
-
Requirements: Must pass comprehensive background checks prior to starting.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
-
Experience: 10+ years in Enterprise Windows Infrastructure.
-
Scale: Proven experience managing environments with 50,000+ endpoints.
-
Technical Depth: Deep knowledge of Windows Internals and complex environment troubleshooting.
-
Scripting: Advanced proficiency in PowerShell or Python.
-
Communication: Ability to distill complex technical concepts for both technical teams and senior stakeholders.
Desired:
-
Security: Experience with the Microsoft E5 suite, SCCM, Intune, and Splunk.
-
Hardening: Expertise in disk encryption and OS security baseline configurations.
-
Modern Working: Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and SRE methodologies.
-
Multi-Platform: Exposure to Unix and macOS administration is a distinct advantage.
The Modern Endpoint Management Stack
In a 50k+ endpoint environment, management moves away from manual “imaging” toward modern, policy-driven automation.
Why this is a “Top-Tier” Contract
-
Outside IR35 Status: Offers the tax efficiency and business autonomy sought by senior contractors.
-
Financial Services Context: Working for a global bank or investment firm provides exposure to the highest standards of security and regulatory compliance.
-
Long-Term Stability: A 12-month initial term provides significant project runway and security.
Application Tip: Highlight “Scale” and “Security”
For a role of this seniority, WWT is looking for more than just a “builder”; they want an “architect.”
-
Scale Specifics: In your proposal, don’t just say “large scale.” Mention how you handled global deployments across multiple time zones or low-bandwidth branches.
-
The E5 Ecosystem: Highlight your experience with Defender for Endpoint—specifically how you used it to hunt for threats or automate incident response.
-
Troubleshooting Narrative: Be prepared to describe a “hard-to-solve” issue that required you to look into the OS kernel or network packet captures to find the root cause.
