Job Duties

Technical Leadership: Lead the analysis and design of complex ventilation and fire life safety systems for transit, highway tunnels, overbuilds, and industrial facilities.

Project Management: Provide day-to-day management of tunnel ventilation projects, including oversight of project finances, commercial results, and design delivery teams.

Numerical Modelling: Oversee and execute design optimizations using 1D (SES) and 3D (CFD) numerical modelling tools on Windows or Linux platforms.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs strictly adhere to NFPA 130 (Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Rail Systems) and NFPA 502 (Road Tunnels, Bridges, and Other Limited Access Highways).

Strategy & Growth: Work with senior leaders to advance regional strategy, support revenue generation, and maintain billable targets for staff.

Business Development: Identify and pursue new project opportunities, lead proposal development, and foster relationships with strategic clients.

Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with business leaders across Highways, Rail, Water, Energy, and Property portfolios to deliver integrated engineering solutions.

Safety Advocacy: Manage and implement site safety programs, incorporating OSHA standards and specific Fire and Life Safety Codes.

Knowledge Sharing: Act as a mentor for junior staff, transferring skills in commercial project management and technical design excellence.
Requirements

Fluid Dynamics Expertise: In-depth understanding of fluid flow, heat, and mass transfer governing equations.

Software Proficiency: Expert level use of Subway Environment Simulation (SES), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Parallel/Grid Computing.

Project Governance: Proven ability to plan, prioritize, and lead multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.

Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated experience managing project budgets and delivering successful commercial outcomes for clients.

Communication: Exceptional corporate-level presentation and communication skills, with a history of publishing in technical journals or conferences.

Regulatory Knowledge: Deep familiarity with underground space safety, including NFPA standards and OSHA requirements.
Qualifications

Experience: 12+ years of progressive, validated experience in Tunnel Ventilation System design, commissioning, and construction.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Civil preferred).

Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York or New Jersey.

Certification: Capability to become an accredited Arup Project Manager.
