Program Assistant (Volunteer Role)

The Smile Outreach

The Smile Outreach is a non-profit organization with a mission to empower and uplift communities across Africa, focusing on adolescent health, women’s empowerment, and youth agency for social change.

Our work is driven by a commitment to tackle pressing issues across the following areas, sexual grooming and cross-generational sexual relationship, menstrual inequity, child marriage, and harmful traditional practices through education, support, and advocacy.

Our Pillars – What We DO

We operate on several fronts to achieve our mission

Adolescent Health and Education We provide comprehensive educational programs that focus on crucial topics such as sexual grooming, menstrual equity, and sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR). By educating adolescents about these issues, we aim to empower them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

Youth Agency and Leadership Through our initiatives like the Outreach Youth Lab, we train and support emerging youth leaders. We equip them with the skills and resources needed to drive social change within their communities. This program includes a six-month intensive training that covers advocacy strategies, media campaigns, and community development.

Women’s Empowerment We are committed to promoting gender equality and ensuring that women have equal rights and opportunities. Our programs address gender-based violence, provide support for menstrual health, and combat harmful traditional practices such as female genital mutilation (FGM).

Community Engagement and Advocacy We work closely with local communities to create supportive environments for open discussions and education on sensitive topics. Our approach involves engaging parents, educators, and community leaders to ensure the sustainability of our efforts.

Our Priorities

Our primary initiatives align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2, 3, 4, 5, and 17
• Promoting Gender Balance Advocating for equality across genders, ensuring equal rights and opportunities.
• Preventing Sexual Grooming Implementing educational programs to help adolescents and communities recognize and resist grooming behaviors, safeguarding them from exploitation.
• Combatting Cross-Generational Sexual Relationships Empowering adolescents to make informed choices and resist harmful sexual relationships.
• Menstrual Justice Addressing menstrual inequities through access to essential products, education, and combatting societal stigmas.
• Offering Effective Training for Advocacy Equipping individuals with skills for meaningful community impacts and social change through the Outreach Academy
• Combatting Harmful Traditional Practices Targeting practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) through awareness, education, and advocacy.

Our Core Values
• Empowerment We believe in empowering women and children through education, support, and advocacy to make informed choices and lead dignified lives.
• Compassion Our approach is rooted in compassion, offering emotional, mental, and practical support to those affected by sexual human rights violations and menstrual inequities.
• Inclusivity We strive for inclusivity by addressing and breaking down societal stigmas associated with our focus areas, ensuring everyone feels valued and heard.
• Integrity We uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in all our initiatives and interactions, fostering trust within the communities we serve.
• Collaboration We believe in the power of collaboration, working closely with local communities, stakeholders, and partners to amplify our impact and drive sustainable change.
• Innovation We are committed to innovative solutions and approaches in our educational and interventional programs, continuously evolving to meet the needs of the communities we support
