Temporary Store Setup Specialist — Layout & Fixture Moves

Website Walmart Canada

Job Summary

The Temporary Store Setup Specialist at Walmart Canada is a high-energy “Merchandising & Logistics” role focused on large-scale store transformations in Québec City. This position requires the “wit” to interpret complex modular floor plans and the “grit” to perform heavy physical labor, including moving industrial fixtures and reconfiguring entire departments. Unlike typical retail roles, this is a “behind-the-scenes” tactical position dedicated to the structural and visual setup of the salesfloor.

Job Details

  • Employer: Walmart Canada.

  • Location: Québec City, Quebec.

  • Status: Temporary (Project-based).

  • Salary: $60,000 – $80,000 a year (Projected annual rate based on experience; starting hourly rate is $18.25).

  • Age Requirement: Must be 18 years or older.

  • Nature of Work: Non-cash handling; minimal customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities: The “Store Transformation” Cycle

You are part of a specialized “Strike Team” responsible for the physical architecture of the shopping experience.

  • Fixture Logistics: Move, assemble, and dismantle heavy store fixtures, shelving units (gondolas), and display racks according to safety protocols.

  • Layout Execution: Implement new store layouts and “Special Buys” floor plans as directed by the corporate merchandising team.

  • Modular Setting: Align shelving and product placement with “Modulars” (detailed diagrams) to ensure every square inch of the salesfloor is optimized for sales.

  • Safety & Integrity: Ensure all fixtures are anchored and leveled correctly to prevent accidents and maintain Walmart’s high safety standards.

  • Salesfloor Maintenance: Clear debris and organize materials during the setup process to ensure the store remains operational or ready for grand re-openings.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

  • The “Physical Specialist”: Someone who thrives in a “hands-on” environment and enjoys seeing the immediate results of their manual labor.

  • Operational Wit: The ability to read a floor plan and understand the spatial relationships between departments and high-traffic aisles.

  • Industrial Grit: High physical stamina for a “Workload-heavy” role involving constant lifting, pushing, and pulling of heavy equipment.

  • Reliability: As a temporary specialist, your ability to show up on time and follow precise technical instructions is critical to meeting project deadlines.

Technical Insights: The Retail Engineering Toolkit

Setting up a modern Walmart requires an understanding of “Planograms” and “Human Centric Design.”

  • Planograms (Modulars): You will work from a “Planogram”—a visual map of exactly where every shelf and peg should be placed to maximize “Visual Merchandising” impact.

  • The “Golden Zone” Layout: You will learn to position high-margin items in the “Golden Zone” (eye level), typically between 1.2 and 1.5 meters from the floor.

  • Fixture Ergonomics: Understanding the weight limits of different shelving brackets and the “Load Bearing” capacity of base decks is essential for long-term store safety.

Why Join the Walmart Setup Team?

This role offers a unique, fast-paced look at the logistics behind Canada’s largest retailer.

  • Competitive Starting Pay: A starting rate of $18.25/hour, with upward adjustments for those with prior construction or retail setup experience.

  • High-Impact Work: You are directly responsible for the “New Look” of a store, influencing how thousands of customers navigate their shopping trips.

  • Physical Fitness: This is an active role that keeps you moving, serving as a great alternative to desk-based or stationary retail positions.

  • Professional Stepping Stone: Experience in store setup is highly valued for future roles in Construction Management, Visual Merchandising, or Project Logistics.
