Job Overview: Teaching Instructor in Accounting (Non-Tenure Track)

St. Joseph’s University (New York) is seeking a dynamic and student-focused Teaching Instructor for its Accounting Department at the Long Island Campus in Patchogue. This non-tenure-track position is ideal for a licensed professional with a passion for bridging the gap between high-level accounting practice and academic success.

Starting in September 2026, the successful candidate will deliver a range of accounting coursework across undergraduate and graduate levels, utilizing on-campus, virtual, and online modalities.


Key Responsibilities & Areas of Instruction

Teaching & Curriculum

  • Core Courses: Deliver instruction in Fundamental and Financial Accounting, Intermediate and Advanced Accounting, Cost/Managerial Accounting, Individual/Corporate Tax, and Auditing.

  • Modality: Maintain an active on-campus presence (at least three days a week) while also managing virtual and online sections via Canvas.

  • Innovation: Develop and deliver innovative coursework designed to inspire and challenge students in the modern financial landscape.

Student Success & Advisement

  • Academic Advising: Provide critical scheduling and academic guidance to help students stay on track for graduation and professional licensure.

  • Accessibility: Hold regular office hours and remain available for student consultations to support academic growth.

University Service

  • Governance: Serve on university committees and participate in departmental and university-wide meetings.

  • Engagement: Attend campus events, including some weekends, to support the university community.

  • Professional Currency: Remain updated on the latest shifts in NYS CPA regulations and global accounting standards.


Requirements & Qualifications

Mandatory Credentials

  • Education: Minimum of a Master’s degree in Business or Accounting.

  • Licensure: A current NYS Certified Public Accountancy (CPA) license is required.

  • Professional Experience: At least five years of professional experience in the accounting field.

Preferred Skills

  • Technical: Experience with the Canvas learning management system.

  • Pedagogy: Proven effectiveness in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Authorization: Must be eligible to work in the U.S. (H1-B visa sponsorship is not available).


Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $64,500 – $66,500 (for candidates holding a Ph.D. or Ed.D.).

  • Determination: Final rank and salary are determined by specific academic achievement and professional tenure.
