TeacherActive is seeking a passionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support schools across Birmingham. In this specialized role, you will work with students between primary and secondary ages who face Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. Your mission is to create a nurturing and safe environment where these young learners can flourish both socially and academically. You will collaborate closely with teachers and therapists to implement personalized support plans, utilizing de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviors effectively. By providing tailored 1:1 and small-group assistance, you will adapt learning materials to meet individual needs, directly impacting the physical and mental welfare of students with additional needs.

  • Responsibilities:

    • Developing and implementing personalized support plans in collaboration with therapists and teachers.

    • Utilizing de-escalation strategies to promote a safe and stable learning environment.

    • Delivering tailored lessons and learning support on a 1:1 or small-group basis.

    • Adapting teaching methods to suit the specific learning styles and SEMH needs of students.

    • Monitoring and supporting the physical, social, and mental welfare of children.

    • Facilitating effective communication with internal staff to ensure consistent care.

    • Maintaining a safe environment through active behavior management.

  • Requirements:

    • Level 3 qualification and/or a minimum of 6 months’ experience in an educational setting.

    • Proven experience supporting students with additional needs on a 1:1 or group basis.

    • Strong understanding of child protection and safeguarding guidelines.

    • Calm, patient, and caring persona with high emotional intelligence.

    • Effective behavior management skills and strong communication abilities.

    • Subject to an enhanced DBS check and professional reference verification.
