Candidate Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Training: Graduate of a technical school or Military training in Electronics Engineering is highly desirable.

  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of X-ray/CT technology, analog/digital circuitry, and mechanical systems.

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication skills for interacting with airport stakeholders.

  • Physical ability to lift heavy weights from time to time.

Diversity & Inclusion: The Engineering Landscape

Leidos is committed to Equal Opportunity. For candidates interested in the broader context of the UK engineering workforce, the industry is currently undergoing a significant shift to improve representation.

UK Engineering Workforce Statistics (2024/25 Estimates):

  • Gender: Approximately 16.5% of engineers in the UK are women, up from 10.5% in 2010.

  • Ethnicity: Approximately 11.4% of the engineering workforce is from a minority ethnic background, compared to roughly 13% of the overall UK workforce.

  • Age: The sector faces a “skills gap,” with nearly 20% of the current workforce set to retire by 2030, making roles like this high in demand.

Why Leidos?

  • Global Impact: Leidos reported $16.7 billion in revenue for 2024; you are joining a massive, stable, and technologically advanced organization.

  • Complex Tech: You will be working with Step-30 technology—cutting-edge CT scanners that create 3D images of baggage, representing the highest tier of aviation security.

  • Benefits: Includes Health and Wellness programs, Income Protection, Paid Leave, and a competitive Retirement plan.

Application Tip: Highlight “CT and High Voltage”

CT (Computed Tomography) technology in airports is relatively new compared to standard X-ray.

  1. Transferable Skills: If you have experience maintaining CT scanners in a medical/healthcare environment, highlight this—the core technology is very similar.

  2. Safety Record: Be prepared to discuss your experience with High Voltage safety protocols. Showing you respect the equipment and follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures is vital.

  3. CRM Familiarity: The mention of Salesforce indicates that administrative accuracy is as important as technical skill. Highlight your experience in logging jobs and managing spare parts inventory.
