Job Summary: SGSAH Assistant Digital Curator
The University of Glasgow, in partnership with the Scottish Graduate School for the Arts & Humanities (SGSAH), is seeking an Assistant Digital Curator. This is a prestigious, specialized opportunity designed specifically for current doctoral researchers to gain professional experience in digital humanities, content curation, and public engagement.
The role focuses on showcasing the innovative work of the SGSAH PhD community through an online Research Showcase and various digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities

Digital Curation: Curate images, audio, and text from PhD researchers for online showcases and exhibitions.

Content Promotion: Assist in developing and executing strategies to promote digital resources to academic and public audiences.

Social Media & Communications: Collaborate with the Media and Communication administrator to create engaging content for SGSAH’s wider digital presence.

Strategic Liaison: Support the SGSAH Alumni Engagement strategy and participate in regular team planning meetings.

Governance: Ensure all digital content is accurate, current, and fully compliant with copyright legislation.
Role Details

Eligibility: Must be a Doctoral Researcher in Arts & Humanities enrolled at an SGSAH member HEI.

Salary: Grade 4 (£25,804 – £27,319 pro rata).

Hours: Part-time (5 hours per week).

Duration: Fixed-term for 6 months.

Location: Primarily remote with occasional in-person meetings/events in Glasgow.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential:
-
Education: Level equivalent to SCQF Level 5 or 6 (National 5/6 or SVQ 2/3).

Technical Literacy: Knowledge of digital research data and digital curation principles.

Soft Skills: Excellent written/verbal communication, high attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.

Autonomy: Ability to use initiative to resolve problems independently and work within a larger remote team.

Platform Knowledge: Proficiency in WordPress.com and web editing.

Digital Content: Experience in content development and transforming digital objects.

Public Engagement: Experience developing research-focused, public-facing outputs.
The Digital Curation Lifecycle
In this role, you will be managing the journey of research data from the “lab” (the PhD project) to the “gallery” (the Research Showcase).

Conceptualize: Identifying which PhD projects are ready for public display.

Create/Receive: Gathering assets (audio, images, text) from researchers.

Appraise/Select: Choosing the most impactful content for the showcase.

Transform: Editing or formatting content (WordPress) to be web-ready.
