Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead Generation: Identify and qualify high-potential accounts within the manufacturing, chemical, and consumer goods sectors.

  • Outbound Prospecting: Execute multi-channel outreach strategies, including cold calling, personalized emailing, and LinkedIn networking to secure meetings for Account Executives.

  • Discovery: Conduct initial discovery calls to understand a prospect’s sustainability goals, supply chain challenges, and software needs.

  • Pipeline Collaboration: Work closely with the Marketing and Sales teams to refine messaging and optimize the sales funnel.

  • CRM Management: Maintain meticulous records of all interactions in our CRM (likely Salesforce or HubSpot) to ensure data-driven decision-making.

  • Passion for Sustainability: A genuine interest in how technology can solve global environmental and supply chain challenges.

  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; you should be comfortable explaining complex tech in simple terms.

  • Resilience: A “hunter” mentality with the ability to handle rejection and remain focused on long-term targets.

  • Tech Savvy: Familiarity with sales tools (SalesLoft, Outreach, ZoomInfo) and CRM systems is highly preferred.

  • Location: Must be based in or willing to relocate to Chicago for a hybrid work arrangement.

5 Simple FAQs

What is “Sustainable Tech” in this context? It refers to software that helps companies analyze the carbon footprint, cost, and risk of their products from design through disposal (Life Cycle Assessment).

What does “Hybrid” look like at Makersite? Typically, this involves 2–3 days in a Chicago co-working space or office for collaboration, with the remaining days working from home.

Is there a commission structure? Yes. SaaS SDR roles almost always include a base salary plus commissions based on the number of qualified meetings set or “Sales Qualified Leads” (SQLs) generated.

What is the growth path? Successful SDRs usually move into Account Executive (AE) roles or Customer Success Manager (CSM) roles within 12–18 months.

Is travel required? Minimal. Most SDR work is done via phone, email, and video conference, though you may occasionally attend regional tech conferences in Chicago.

Expert Analysis

In 2026, Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) software are among the fastest-growing SaaS verticals. Makersite sits at a unique intersection of these. For an SDR, this means you aren’t just selling “another software”; you are selling a solution to a regulatory and moral imperative, which generally leads to higher conversion rates and better commission checks.

Location & Logistics Guide

Makersite’s Chicago presence places you in the heart of the “Silicon Prairie.”

  • Commute: If the office is in the West Loop or River North, you’ll have easy access to the Ogilvie and Union Metra stations, as well as the CTA Pink/Green lines.

  • Networking: Chicago is a hub for logistics and manufacturing tech, providing ample opportunities for after-hours networking with industry leaders.
