Room Service Cashier | Omni Hotels & Resorts (La Mansión del Rio)

Job Summary

The Room Service Cashier at Omni La Mansión del Rio is a critical communication and financial hub for the hotel’s in-room dining operations. Located at one of the most historic and prestigious properties on the San Antonio Riverwalk, this role is far more than a clerical position; it is a high-standard guest service role that follows strict Forbes Travel Guide benchmarks. You are responsible for being the first point of contact for guests seeking private dining, requiring a blend of sophisticated phone etiquette, expert menu knowledge, and precise revenue management. Your goal is to provide a seamless, luxury experience from the moment the phone rings to the final processing of the guest’s check.

Key Responsibilities

  • Luxury Communication: Answer all room service calls within three rings and utilize the guest’s last name at least three times to personalize the interaction, adhering to MOS and Forbes standards.

  • Order Orchestration: Accurately record food and beverage orders, providing guests with precise delivery time estimates and informing them of daily restaurant specials.

  • Consultative Selling: Utilize deep knowledge of the food menu and wine list to engage in upselling and suggestive selling, enhancing the guest experience and driving revenue.

  • Financial Oversight: Prepare and process payment checks, charge amenities and coffee orders according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and perform all control and revenue-related paperwork.

  • Operational Support: Print and distribute essential hotel reports, assist servers with the setup and breakdown of trays during peak times, and escalate amenity or service issues to the Concierge or Manager.

  • Compliance: Adhere to all alcohol liability laws and maintain valid certifications for food and beverage service in the state of Texas.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Certifications: Must possess valid TABC (Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission) and Food Handler certifications.

  • Experience: Previous cash handling experience is preferred.

  • Flexibility: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Soft Skills: Friendly, motivated, and possessing a “passion to serve others” in a high-pressure, luxury environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hospitality Background: Previous food and beverage experience in a fine dining or hotel setting is strongly preferred.

  • Domain Expertise: Prior experience specifically within Room Service/In-Room Dining operations.

About the Company: Omni Hotels & Resorts

Omni Hotels & Resorts is renowned for its “Power of One” culture, where associates are empowered to make decisions that delight guests. La Mansión del Rio is a flagship property, embodying the Spanish Colonial architecture and historic charm of San Antonio. Omni is a company that prides itself on respect, gratitude, and a reputation for exceptional service. They offer a dynamic work environment with a heavy emphasis on professional mentoring and world-class training.

Market & Industry Context

The San Antonio Riverwalk is a premier global tourism destination, and La Mansión del Rio sits at its heart. In the luxury hotel sector, In-Room Dining is often a primary touchpoint for high-net-worth travelers and corporate executives. As a Room Service Cashier, you are the “invisible” concierge of the dining room. Your ability to maintain Forbes-level standards—such as punctuality and personalized recognition—is what maintains the hotel’s “Top-Tier” status in a market saturated with hospitality options.

Career Growth & Progression Path

  • Room Service Lead/Captain: Taking on supervisory duties for the server team and overseeing complex amenity deliveries.

  • Front Office or Concierge: Transitioning into guest relations roles where high-level communication and personalized service are key.

  • Food & Beverage Management: Moving into leadership roles within Omni’s various award-winning restaurants or catering departments.

Interview Preparation Insights

  • The “Forbes” Mentality: Research Forbes Travel Guide standards for phone etiquette. Be ready to discuss why answering within three rings and using a guest’s name is vital for luxury branding.

  • Menu Mastery: Mention your strategy for learning a complex menu and wine list quickly. They need to know you can recommend a pairing or describe a dish accurately over the phone.

  • The Upsell: Prepare an example of how you might suggestively sell an appetizer or a specific bottle of wine to a guest who seems undecided.

  • Administrative Accuracy: Emphasize your attention to detail regarding paperwork and revenue control; a room service bill is one of the most common areas for guest disputes, so accuracy is paramount.

Estimated Benefits & Rewards

Full-time associates at Omni La Mansión are eligible for a robust benefits package:

  • Healthcare: Medical, Dental, Vision, and other healthcare options.

  • Family Support: Paid Maternity Leave.

  • Retirement & Time Off: 401(k) and Paid Time Off (PTO).

  • Omni Perks: Discounted rates at other Omni properties nationwide and discounts at the on-site spa and restaurants.

You will be working in a historic, fast-paced environment nestled along the Riverwalk. The role involves significant time on the phone and at a computer terminal, with occasional physical activity assisting with tray setups. You will be part of a diverse team of servers and chefs, all working together in a culture of “respect and empowerment.”
