Job Summary: Ramp and Baggage Agent

Swissport International AG is hiring Ramp Agents for their Birmingham Airport (BHX) operations. This is a highly active, “under-the-wing” role where you are responsible for the physical turnaround of the aircraft. From marshalling the plane into its stand to loading tons of luggage and ensuring the cabin is prepped for the next flight, the Ramp Agent is the engine room of airport operations.


Key Responsibilities

1. Aircraft & Baggage Handling

    • Loading/Unloading: Safely move baggage, cargo, and mail between the terminal and the aircraft hold, often within very tight timeframes.

    • Ground Service Equipment (GSE): Operate specialized machinery including baggage tugs, belt loaders, and water/lavatory service vehicles.

    • Marshalling: Use hand signals to guide pilots to and from the gate, ensuring the aircraft is positioned with centimetre-level precision.

2. Technical Servicing

  • Cabin Prep: Perform quick-turnaround cleaning and tidying of the aircraft cabin.

  • Fluid Management: Replenish potable water tanks and perform lavatory servicing (waste removal) using dedicated GSE.

  • Safety & Security: Adhere to strict guidelines for handling hazardous materials and ensuring the “ramp” remains a clear, safe working environment.


Role Details & Pay

  • Rate of Pay: £12.91 per hour.

  • Location: Birmingham Airport (BHX).

  • Contract: Part-time, Fixed-term until 31 October 2026.

  • Hours: 30 hours per week (Monday–Sunday).

  • Scheduling: Rotas are issued 28 days in advance; however, you cannot choose your own shifts—flexibility for early starts, late finishes, and holidays is mandatory.


Mandatory Requirements

  • Driving Licence: You must possess a Full UK Manual Driver’s License to operate the GSE.

  • Physical Fitness: This is a “weather-neutral” role, meaning you will be lifting heavy bags in rain, wind, and heat.

  • Vetting: You must be able to pass a full background check (standard for all airside ID holders).

  • Communication: Strong teamwork skills are essential to coordinate with the “Pushback” crew and flight deck.
