Job Summary

The Physical Temporary Setup Associate at Walmart is a specialized, “labor-intensive” role focused on the structural evolution of the retail environment in Québec City. This position requires the “wit” to interpret complex modular diagrams and the “grit” to execute heavy-duty physical tasks, such as moving industrial shelving and reconfiguring entire departments. You are part of a tactical team that works behind the scenes to ensure the store’s physical layout is optimized for the modern shopping experience.

Job Details

  • Employer: Walmart Canada.

  • Location: Québec City, Quebec.

  • Status: Temporary (Project-based).

  • Salary: $60,000 – $80,000 a year (Estimated annual range; specific project rates apply).

  • Environment: Non-customer-facing; focus on internal store architecture.

  • Requirement: Must be 18 years or older.

Key Responsibilities: The “Store Reset” Cycle

In this role, you act as a “Retail Architect,” transforming empty spaces into fully functional shopping departments.

  • Special Layout Establishment: Assemble and position “Power Wings,” “Endcaps,” and “Action Alley” displays according to corporate seasonal strategies.

  • Modular Fixture Movement: Move and adjust heavy “Gondola” shelving units throughout the store to accommodate new product categories.

  • Project Execution: Complete specific setup tasks for store renovations, department “swaps,” or new store openings within strict deadlines.

  • Collaborative Logistics: Work closely with Management and Planogram Specialists to ensure every fixture is placed to the exact centimeter required by the floor plan.

  • Physical Rigor: Spend your shift performing heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling of steel fixtures and base decks.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

  • The “Industrial Specialist”: Someone with a strong physical capability for heavy lifting and a preference for active, hands-on work over a desk job.

  • Spatial Wit: The ability to look at a 2D floor plan and visualize the 3D placement of fixtures in a large-scale retail environment.

  • Operational Grit: A disciplined approach to safety and efficiency, with the flexibility to adapt as project priorities shift during a “Store Reset.”

  • Previous Experience: Candidates with prior experience in warehouse, construction, or retail department setups are highly preferred.

Technical Insights: The Retail Engineering Toolkit

The efficiency of a Walmart layout is dictated by “Planograms” and “Modular Integrity.”

  • Planogram Compliance: You will follow a “Planogram”—a detailed visual map that ensures products are placed in high-visibility zones to maximize sales.

  • The “Golden Zone” Strategy: You will help implement layouts where “high-impulse” items are placed at eye level, generally 1.2 to 1.5 meters from the floor.

  • Load-Bearing Safety: You must understand the structural limits of shelving units, ensuring that heavy inventory (like bottled water or pet food) is placed on reinforced base decks to prevent fixture collapse.

Why Join the Walmart Setup Team?

This role provides a unique, high-impact look at the logistics of the world’s largest retailer.

  • Competitive Pay: A strong salary range of $60k–$80k for project-based specialists who can deliver results under pressure.

  • No Customer Friction: Focus entirely on the technical and physical aspects of the job without the stress of cash handling or customer service.

  • Team Synergy: Work in a supportive environment where you collaborate with management to fulfill large-scale organizational goals.

  • Skill Acquisition: Gain transferable skills in Project Management, Visual Merchandising, and Industrial Logistics.
