Petroleum Driver — CDL Class 3 + Service & Inventory

Website Saskatoon Co-op

Job Summary

The Petroleum Driver (CDL Class 3) at Saskatoon Co-op (representing their regional operations) is a specialized “Logistics & Retail Operations” role based in Québec City. This position requires the “wit” to manage complex inventory controls and high-stakes fuel transactions, and the “grit” to operate heavy machinery (Class 3 vehicles) in all weather conditions. You are the vital link in the co-operative supply chain, ensuring that petroleum products are delivered safely while maintaining the retail excellence of the Co-op brand.

Job Details

  • Employer: Saskatoon Co-op (Regional Division).

  • Location: Québec City, Quebec.

  • Status: Full-time.

  • Licensing: Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement is mandatory.

  • Core Focus: Petroleum delivery, inventory management, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities: The “Fuel & Retail” Cycle

You are responsible for the safe transport of hazardous materials and the administrative precision of the retail site.

  • Heavy Vehicle Operation: Safely operate Class 3 petroleum delivery trucks, navigating urban and rural routes around Québec City while adhering to all transport safety regulations.

  • Inventory Control: Monitor and manage fuel levels and retail stock, ensuring accurate data entry and preventing “shrinkage” or stock-outs.

  • Transaction Processing: Handle customer transactions with high precision, managing both digital and manual point-of-sale systems.

  • Merchandising Excellence: Maintain the visual standards of the facility, ensuring products are displayed effectively to drive co-operative sales.

  • Mechanical Maintenance: Utilize your “mechanical inclination” to perform basic vehicle inspections and minor equipment troubleshooting to ensure operational uptime.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

  • The “Safety-First Driver”: Someone with a serious commitment to the protocols involved in transporting petroleum and operating air-brake systems.

  • Interpersonal Wit: Strong communication skills to interact with co-op members and customers, fostering a “community-focused” atmosphere.

  • Operational Grit: Highly motivated to handle the physical demands of fuel delivery and the mental focus required for inventory auditing.

  • Technical Aptitude: Comfortable with the mechanical aspects of heavy trucks and the digital tools used for inventory and sales.

Technical Insights: The Petroleum Logistics Stack

Operating a Class 3 vehicle in the petroleum sector requires specific technical knowledge of “Weight Distribution” and “Vapor Recovery.”

  • Air Brake Systems: Your Air Endorsement is critical; you must understand the lag time in air-pressure systems compared to hydraulic brakes, especially when carrying shifting liquid loads.

  • Ullage & Expansion: You will manage “Ullage”—the empty space left in a tank to allow for the thermal expansion of petroleum. In 2026, precision sensors help drivers calculate this to within 0.5% accuracy.

  • Co-operative Business Model: Unlike traditional retail, a Co-op is owned by its members. Your “Customer Service” directly impacts the “Member Equity” and year-end dividends of the local community.

Why Join the Co-op?

The Co-op is a staple of the Canadian landscape, known for stability and community investment.

  • Competitive Compensation: Benefit from a salary package that recognizes the specialized nature of Class 3 petroleum transport.

  • Career Advancement: The Co-op is a massive federation; success in this role opens doors to Logistics Management or Operations Lead positions.

  • Comprehensive Benefits: Access to a full health and dental package designed to support long-term employee well-being.

  • Community Impact: Work for an organization where profits are returned to the local members and invested back into Québec City.
