Position: Patient Care Aide – Emergency Department (Temporary Part-Time)
Queensway Carleton Hospital invites applications for a Temporary Part-Time Patient Care Aide in the Emergency Department. This role supports the interdisciplinary team by assisting with patient care, ensuring safety, and contributing to the efficiency and quality of service. The position involves a variety of clinical and support tasks under the guidance of nurses and care facilitators.

Responsibilities:

  • Support nursing and interdisciplinary staff with patient care, including ambulation and repositioning

  • Assist with bed linen changes for occupied and unoccupied beds

  • Transport patients within the unit using wheelchairs, stretchers, or walking escort

  • Respond promptly to call bells and patient requests

  • Assist patients with hand hygiene and clear over-bed tables before meal delivery

  • Transport discharged patients to the hospital entrance as required

  • Provide patient sitter functions when directed

  • Monitor and replenish patient safety supplies such as hand sanitizer, restraints, and eyewash bottles

  • Restock non-stores items in the clean supply room per unit procedures

  • Replenish supplies on isolation and nursing carts, warming cupboards, and procedure totes/carts

  • Maintain effective communication to promote teamwork and support patient care

  • Participate in unit and corporate programs, including OHS initiatives, WHMIS, lifts and transfers training, mask fit testing, orientation of new staff, and daily CPI huddles

  • Demonstrate QCH values: collaboration, accountability, innovation, and respect

Education & Experience:

  • Grade 12 education

  • Completion of an accredited health-related program (e.g., Personal Support Worker, Developmental Support Worker, Internationally Educated Health Care Professional, or equivalent)

  • Previous experience maintaining effective relationships in healthcare settings is preferred

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Valid CPR Level C certification

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently

  • Reliability and regular attendance

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment

Work Schedule:

  • Temporary Part-Time (0.50 FTE) for approximately nine months

  • Approximately 37.5 hours bi-weekly

  • Shifts include Days, Nights, Evenings, and Weekends

  • Shift durations: 7.5 hours & 11.25 hours per shift (subject to change)

Compensation:

  • $23.59 – $24.88/hr (CUPE 22 scale)

  • Additional $2.00/hr through Ontario’s Permanent Compensation Enhancement Program for PSWs and Direct Support Workers
