Full Job Description

Sis’s Cafe & Catering is a well-known, locally-owned establishment in Anchorage (situated in the Midtown/B Street area) recognized for its homemade-style comfort food and robust catering services. Working here involves a high-energy, “hands-on” environment where the staff is often cross-trained to handle both the bustling daily breakfast/lunch rush and the preparation for large-scale private and corporate events.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Greeting guests, taking orders at the counter or tableside, and providing knowledgeable suggestions from the daily specials board.

  • Kitchen & Food Prep: Assisting with the assembly of sandwiches, salads, and specialty breakfast items. For catering, this includes high-volume food prep and professional plating.

  • Catering Logistics: Assisting in the setup, service, and breakdown of off-site catering events. This may involve loading vans and ensuring all equipment (chafing dishes, linens, utensils) is accounted for.

  • Barista & Beverage Service: Preparing coffee, tea, and specialty drinks, and managing the beverage station for both dine-in and catering guests.

  • General Maintenance: Ensuring the dining room is clean and inviting, handling dishwashing during peak times, and maintaining strict food safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Energy & Attitude: A friendly, “can-do” personality is the top priority for this family-oriented business.

  • Experience: Previous experience in a fast-casual café or catering environment is preferred but not always required for entry-level roles.

  • Certifications: Ability to obtain a Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card within 30 days of hire.

  • Physicality: Ability to stand for long shifts, move quickly during the lunch rush, and lift catering crates (approx. 30–40 lbs).

  • Flexibility: While the café typically has daytime hours, catering roles may require occasional early mornings or weekend availability for special events.

Why Work Here:

  • Local Vibe: A chance to work in a tight-knit, non-corporate environment where you can build relationships with regular local customers.

  • Daytime Hours: Unlike many restaurant roles, the café’s schedule often allows for evenings off, making it ideal for those seeking a better work-life balance.

  • Skill Development: Gain experience in both front-of-house service and behind-the-scenes catering production and event management.
