Part-Time Employee Relations Specialist

Website Anderson Knight

Job Summary: Part-Time Employee Relations (ER) Specialist

Anderson Knight is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist for a permanent, part-time role within a well-established, multi-site organization. This position is designed for an ER professional who thrives on managing complex casework and providing high-level, commercially-minded advice to management.

This is a “pure-play” ER role, allowing you to move away from generalist duties and focus specifically on the intricacies of employment law and dispute resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complex Casework Management: Take full ownership of high-level ER cases, including complex disciplinaries, grievances, long-term absence management, and performance improvement plans (PIPs).

  • Strategic Advisory: Act as a trusted advisor to line managers, offering guidance that balances legal compliance with “commercially focused” business needs.

  • Organizational Change: Support the HR team through consultation processes and structural changes, ensuring legal and procedural integrity.

  • Policy Governance: Drive consistency across multiple sites, ensuring that HR policies are applied fairly and effectively throughout the organization.

  • Trend Analysis: Monitor ER data to identify recurring themes, allowing for proactive interventions and training to reduce future case volumes.

Role Details

  • Pay/Hours: 21 hours per week (Part-time).

  • Location: Remote (UK-based) or office-based in Glasgow.

  • Environment: Multi-site, professional HR function.

  • Recruiter: Anderson Knight.

Candidate Profile

Essential:

  • ER Expertise: Proven track record of managing end-to-end complex ER cases independently.

  • Legal Knowledge: Deep, up-to-date understanding of UK Employment Law.

  • Influence: Ability to constructively challenge and influence stakeholders at all management levels.

  • Precision: High standard of written communication and attention to detail for case documentation.

Desirable:

  • Education: CIPD qualification or equivalent professional experience.

  • Sector Experience: Previous experience in a multi-site or fast-paced operational environment.

The ER Specialist’s Impact

In a multi-site organization, the ER Specialist acts as a “firewall” for the company, protecting it from litigation while maintaining a fair culture for employees.

Why this Role is a Great “Flexible” Option

  • Meaningful Part-Time: Unlike many part-time roles that are administrative, this is a “specialist” role with significant responsibility and impact.

  • Remote-First: The ability to work remotely from anywhere in the UK provides a high degree of work-life balance for an ER professional.

  • Niche Focus: This is an excellent opportunity for an HR Generalist looking to specialize or a senior HR professional looking to scale back their hours while maintaining their seniority.

Application Tip: Quantify Your Experience

Anderson Knight is looking for someone who can work “independently.” To stand out, focus your application on your case outcomes:

  1. Complexity: Briefly describe a time you handled a particularly sensitive or complex grievance or disciplinary.

  2. Resolution: Highlight your experience in mediation. Mentioning how you resolved an issue before it reached an Employment Tribunal is highly attractive to employers.

  3. Proactive Improvements: Mention if you have ever rewritten a policy or trained managers to help reduce the number of ER cases in a previous role.
