Job Summary: Medical Front Office Receptionist (PRN)

Complete Care ER is hiring an experienced Medical Front Office Receptionist for its freestanding emergency room in Colorado Springs, CO. This is a PRN (as-needed) role that requires high flexibility, as you must be able to work both 12-hour day shifts (7 a.m. – 7 p.m.) and night shifts (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.), including weekends and holidays. As the first point of contact in a high-intensity ER environment, you will manage patient registration and insurance verification while providing a calm, professional presence for families in stressful situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Access: Welcome patients, execute the check-in process, and manage all front-desk administrative duties.

  • Insurance Verification: Conduct real-time eligibility checks and verify medical insurance for emergency services.

  • EMR/EPM Management: Accurately enter demographic and clinical data into the Electronic Medical Record system.

  • Clinical Coordination: Collaborate with the nursing and physician teams to ensure seamless patient flow from the waiting area to the treatment rooms.

  • Crisis Communication: Maintain professional and empathetic communication with patients and their families during medical emergencies.

  • Office Logistics: Manage multi-line phones, organize patient paperwork, and maintain a clean, HIPAA-compliant front office.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: * 1–2 years of medical insurance verification experience.

    • 2–3 years of medical customer service or front desk experience.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proven experience with EMR/EPM systems and Microsoft Office.

  • Certification: Must obtain AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certification within 60 days of hire.

  • Adaptability: Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with the ability to pivot between administrative tasks and patient care support.

  • Availability: Total flexibility to work rotating day/night shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation & Perks

  • Base Pay: $20.00 per hour.

  • Shift Differentials: Additional hourly pay for night and weekend shifts (standard differentials in Colorado Springs ERs often range from $2.00 to $4.50+ depending on the specific shift).

  • Tuition Reimbursement: Opportunities to further your education with company support.

  • Healthcare Perks: Free emergency care for you and your family at any Complete Care location.

  • Modern Facility: Work in a state-of-the-art, patient-centered facility located at 8115 Voyager Pkwy (North Colorado Springs).

Market & Industry Context: Freestanding ERs in 2026

Freestanding ERs (FSERs) offer a unique workplace dynamic compared to traditional hospital departments.

  • Wait-Time Specialists: In 2026, Complete Care Colorado Springs maintains a reputation for significantly lower wait times than local hospital systems (like UCHealth or Centura). As a receptionist, your efficiency in registration directly supports this “no-wait” brand promise.

  • The Hybrid Model: This location often functions as a hybrid Urgent Care + ER. You must be adept at explaining the billing differences to patients to ensure “no surprise billing” and high patient satisfaction scores.

  • Local Reputation: The facility currently holds a high patient satisfaction rating (approx. 4.6/5 stars), with frequent mentions of the “amazing staff” and “quick intake process.”

Career Growth & Progression Path

  1. Lead Patient Access Specialist: Overseeing the front-office schedule and training new hires.

  2. Medical Coder/Biller: Utilizing your insurance verification experience to move into specialized revenue cycle management.

  3. Clinical Transition: Using tuition reimbursement to pursue a career as an EMT, Medical Assistant, or Registered Nurse within the ER environment.

Interview Preparation Insights

  • The Multi-Tasking Test: Be ready to describe a time you managed a complex task (like a difficult insurance verification) while simultaneously handling an incoming emergency or a ringing phone.

  • De-escalation Skills: In an ER, patients are often scared or in pain. Provide examples of how you have used “active listening” to calm a frustrated or anxious individual.

  • Schedule Commitment: Since the role explicitly requires both days and nights, clearly confirm your ability to manage the “flip” between a 7 a.m. start and a 7 p.m. start.
