Key Responsibilities & Daily Tasks
Cashiering & Financial Operations

Transaction Management: Operate the cash register, record prices, process payments (cash or checks), and accurately provide change.

Financial Reporting (Lead Level): Balance registers against tapes, prepare bank deposits, and monitor meal tickets or invoices to ensure sound business practices.

Customer Support: Assist guests with inquiries and provide general information regarding the cafeteria’s offerings.
Beverage Craft & Food Service

Specialty Brewing: Brew a wide variety of coffees, teas, and chocolates using specialized equipment, urns, and drink mixers.

Quality Control: Monitor the quality and quantity of food being served and assist in other food service areas as needed.

Stocking: Periodically check and replenish cafeteria supplies to ensure stations are fully functional.
Sanitation & Maintenance

Environmental Care: Continually wipe and clean the dining room and associated service areas to maintain hospital-grade sanitation standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
Core Requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience: At least 3 months of experience in cash handling and professional cleaning procedures.

Certification: Must obtain an Alaska Food Workers Card or ServSafe Certification within 90 days of hire.

Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive fingerprinting background investigation (compliant with the Crime Control Act and Indian Child Protection Act).
Physical & Language Skills

Communication: Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.

Physical Demands: Frequent walking and standing; ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

NMS provides essential services for the Maniilaq Health Center, local schools, and corporate housing facilities. Working here requires a high level of adaptability, as you are often supporting the infrastructure of a remote “hub” community in Northwest Alaska.
Typical Roles & Responsibilities:

Healthcare Support: Providing clinical-grade housekeeping and patient meal services at the Maniilaq Health Center, ensuring strict adherence to sanitation and infection control protocols.

Facilities Maintenance: Performing essential repairs, HVAC monitoring, and preventative maintenance for large-scale institutional buildings in an arctic environment.

Food Service & Catering: Preparing high-volume, nutritious meals for staff, patients, or residents, often incorporating local logistical realities and dietary requirements.
