Interior Designer (Post-Contract)

Portico Recruitment (On behalf of a Boutique Design Studio) • Dubai, United Arab Emirates

 Clean Professional Job Summary

This Post-Contract Interior Designer role is a specialized technical position focused on the critical execution phase of high-end luxury projects. Representing a prestigious and growing design studio, the successful candidate will bridge the gap between initial design intent and on-site construction realities.

Based in Dubai, you will oversee the construction and fit-out stages for luxury hospitality, high-end residential, and cultural landmarks . This role demands a designer with “site-hardened” experience—someone who can navigate complex coordination with MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and structural consultants while ensuring that bespoke joinery and finishing standards meet the studio’s uncompromising quality benchmarks.

 Key Responsibilities

The Post-Contract Designer serves as the design guardian during the build cycle:

  • Site Representation & Coordination: Act as the primary design lead on-site; Attend technical coordination meetings and ensure the contractor’s execution aligns with Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings.

  • Technical Review: Critique and approve contractor shop drawings , material submittals, and physical mock-ups to ensure compliance with the original aesthetic and functional specifications.

  • Problem Resolution: Proactively resolve site clashes (specifically with MEP and structural elements) by developing rapid, practical technical details that maintain design integrity.

  • Quality & Material Control: Conduct regular inspections to verify that installed finishes match approved samples; supervise the installation of custom FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) and bespoke joinery.

  • Documentation Management: Respond to contractor RFIs (Requests for Information) , issue clarification sketches, and maintain meticulous drawing registers to support the final As-Built documentation.

  • Value Engineering: Assist in cost-optimization exercises without sacrificing the high-end finish standards expected by the client.

 Required Skills & Experience

  • Professional Tenure: 5–8+ years of experience in Interior Design, with at least 3 years specifically in post-contract/site roles .

  • Sector Expertise: A proven portfolio in luxury hospitality , high-end residential, or major cultural projects.

  • Technical Detailing: Exceptional knowledge of joinery construction, finishing materials, and the ability to read complex architectural and structural sets.

  • Regional Experience: Demonstrated experience dealing with contractors and sub-contractors within the Middle Eastern construction landscape .

  • Problem Solving: A solution-driven mindset capable of providing on-the-spot technical fixes in a fast-paced environment.

  • Soft Skills: Highly organized, proactive, and capable of maintaining “brilliance” under the pressure of demanding quality standards.

 Company Culture: The Design Studio

The hiring studio is a non-stagnant, high-growth environment that prioritizes design excellence over volume. The culture is built on meticulous care and detail , seeking designers who view their work as a craft rather than a task. This is an environment that rewards “brilliance” and provides significant professional challenges, aiming to grow its designers alongside the studio’s expanding regional footprint.

 Market & Industry Context: Dubai Fit-Out 2026

In 2026, Dubai’s interior design market is defined by “Ultra-Prime” delivery. With the city hosting global cultural events and expanding its luxury hospitality stock, the role of a Post-Contract Designer has become the industry’s most critical “quality filter.” The market has shifted towards Smart Fit-Outs , requiring designers to coordinate with integrated home automation and sustainable material certifications (like LEED or WELL). This role matters because, in Dubai’s fast-track construction culture, the Post-Contract Designer is the only barrier between a visionary concept and a compromised execution.

 Career Growth & Progression Path

This technical leadership role offers several avenues for professional advancement:

  1. Technical Design Director: Overseeing the technical standards and post-contract teams for the entire studio portfolio.

  2. Design Project Manager: Transitioning into full-scale project leadership, managing budgets, timelines, and multi-disciplinary teams.

  3. Specialist Consultant: Becoming a regional expert in luxury fit-out and forensic design coordination.

  4. Studio Associate: Taking a leadership stake in the growth and operational strategy of the boutique studio.

 Interview Preparation Insights

  • The “RFI” Logic: Be prepared to walk through a complex technical clash you resolved on-site. How did you balance the contractor’s budget, the MEP constraints, and the design aesthetic?

  • Shop Drawing Critique: You may be asked to review a sample shop drawing for a bespoke joinery item. What common errors do you look for in Dubai-based sub-contractor drawings?

  • Material Discrepancy: How do you handle a situation where a contractor installs a “similar” material that doesn’t match the approved sample?

  • Fast-Track Delivery: Discuss your methods for tracking changes and ensuring the drawing register is always current during a high-speed construction phase.

 Salary & Benefits Insight

  • Official Range: AED 120,000 – AED 200,000 per year (Tax-Free).

  • Contract Type: Contractor / Full-time.

  • Benefits: As a high-end boutique role, packages often include performance-based rewards, professional development opportunities, and standard UAE medical/flight benefits.

 Work Environment & Location Insights

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: This is a site-active role. While you will be part of a creative studio, significant time will be spent on-site at major developments across the city. The environment is fast-paced and demands a professional who can transition seamlessly from a high-level design meeting to a dusty construction site, maintaining authority and clarity in both settings.
