Job Overview
The UKHSA Acute Respiratory Infections Unit (part of the T.A.R.Z.E.T. Division) is seeking an Information Officer/Admin professional to support public health surveillance. You will play a critical role in managing data that informs the preparedness, prevention, and control of infections such as Legionella, MERS-CoV, and zoonotic Influenza. This is a hybrid role based at the Canary Wharf HQ with occasional requirements at the Colindale scientific campus.
Key Responsibilities

Data Management: Maintain and develop databases, monitor data submissions for completeness, and perform validation/reconciliation to improve data quality.

Analysis & Reporting: Assist in the analysis of scientific data, produce epidemiological outputs, and respond to ad hoc information requests.

Governance: Ensure strict compliance with the Data Protection Act and internal policies regarding patient confidentiality and secure data storage.

Process Improvement: Create and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent data handling.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a key point of contact for internal teams (e.g., Health Protection Teams) and external partners (e.g., NHS Trusts, Local Authorities, Universities).
Essential Criteria

Education: Degree or equivalent experience in Biomedical Science, Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related discipline.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Data Handling: Proven experience in data management, analysis, and reporting.

Communication: Ability to communicate technical information clearly and tactfully to diverse professionals (clinical and non-clinical).

Work Ethic: Strong numeracy, ability to prioritize workloads, and the capacity to work both independently and within a team.

Important Things to Know

Hybrid Working: As a hybrid worker, you are expected to spend approximately 60% of your time at the Canary Wharf office (averaged over a month).

Future Transition: UKHSA is planning a phased move to a new National Biosecurity Centre in Harlow, Essex, starting in the mid-2030s.
