Job Summary: Tax Senior Manager (Asset & Wealth Management)
PwC UK is seeking a Senior Manager to join its rapidly expanding Asset & Wealth Management (AWM) tax advisory practice in Glasgow. Unlike traditional tax roles focused on filings, this position is predominantly advisory-focused, as compliance delivery is centralized elsewhere.
You will act as a high-level consultant for a portfolio of UK and multinational financial institutions, helping them navigate complex international tax laws, capital requirements, and the tax implications of global investments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Tax Advisory
-
International Structuring: Design and implement tax-efficient structures for major global transactions, divestments, and acquisitions.
-
Technical Complexity: Lead projects involving group reorganizations, BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) planning, and complex UK corporate tax matters.
-
Audit of Tax: Provide specialist support for the audit of tax figures within financial statements for high-profile clients.
2. Leadership & Team Management
-
Squad Leadership: Lead and mentor a dedicated team of Corporate Tax Managers and Associates.
-
The PwC Professional: Operate within PwC’s global leadership framework to foster a purpose-led, values-driven team culture.
-
Relationship Management: Build and maintain deep-rooted relationships with C-suite stakeholders across a diverse portfolio of asset management sub-sectors.
3. Business Development
-
Growth Initiatives: Work directly with Partners and Directors to identify new market opportunities and expand the FS tax business in Scotland and beyond.
Role Details
-
Location: Glasgow (Hybrid: Split between office, home, and client sites).
-
Basis: Permanent, Full-time.
-
Core Focus: 100% Financial Services (Asset & Wealth Management).
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
-
Qualifications: Must hold CTA, CA, ACCA, or an equivalent international professional qualification.
-
Experience: Significant experience in UK Corporate Tax at a management level, ideally within a “Big 4” or mid-tier firm.
-
Technical Breadth: Proven ability to handle technically demanding advisory work and major transactions.
Desirable:
-
Sector Expertise: Practical experience in asset management sub-sectors (e.g., Private Equity, Hedge Funds, or Real Estate funds).
-
Audit Skills: Specific experience in the Audit of Tax.
The AWM Tax Advisory Landscape
In Asset and Wealth Management, tax is not just a cost—it is a critical factor in fund performance and investor returns.
-
Fund Structuring: Ensuring the investment vehicle is tax-neutral and efficient for global investors.
-
Operational Tax: Managing withholding taxes and treaty claims on investment income.
-
Exit Strategy: Optimizing the tax position during the sale of assets or fund liquidation.
Why This Role Stands Out at PwC
-
“Empowered Flexibility”: PwC’s commitment to flexible working is baked into the contract, allowing you to manage your own schedule between home and the Glasgow office.
-
Specialist Growth: As one of the fastest-growing areas of the firm, the AWM team offers a clear runway to Director and Partner levels for ambitious Senior Managers.
-
Total Reward: Beyond the competitive salary, you receive private medical cover, 24/7 virtual GP access, and six dedicated volunteering days per year.
Application Tip: Lead with “Advisory Impact”
Since this role is advisory-heavy, PwC will be looking for your ability to solve “grey area” problems rather than just following a checklist:
-
Transaction Experience: Highlight a specific deal or reorganization where your tax advice directly added value or mitigated a significant risk.
-
Soft Skills: As a Senior Manager, emphasize your “PwC Professional” qualities—specifically how you have mentored juniors or managed difficult client conversations.
-
Technical Niche: Mention your familiarity with recent legislative changes like Pillar Two or the Qualifying Asset Holding Companies (QAHC) regime, as these are highly relevant to current AWM clients.
