Job Summary: Delivery Assistant (Food & Beverage)

London Southend Airport (LSA) is looking for “SENsational” colleagues to join their Food & Beverage department. As a Delivery Assistant, you are the logistical backbone of the airport’s passenger services. You ensure that premium lounges, bars, cafés, and restaurants are fully stocked and ready for travelers.

This is a Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) expiring on 30th September 2026, offering very low-hour shifts (6 or 8 hours per week), making it an ideal role for those seeking supplemental income or entry into the aviation industry.

Key Responsibilities

1. Logistics & Stock Management

  • Delivery Acceptance: Receive and sign for all incoming Food & Beverage items.

  • Quality Control: Inspect deliveries for accuracy and report any damages or discrepancies immediately.

  • Manual Handling: Transport goods throughout the terminal and pack them away organized in storerooms.

2. Operational Environment

  • All-Weather Work: Be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions to manage incoming shipments.

  • 24/7 Operation: Work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

  • One Team Culture: Be flexible and willing to support other airport departments (e.g., cleaning or ground maintenance) as business needs evolve.

Role Details & Pay

  • Rate of Pay: £12.21 per hour.

  • Contract: Fixed-Term (Ending 30th Sept 2026).

  • Hours: Part-time (6 hours or 8 hours per week options).

  • Location: London Southend Airport (SS2).

Candidate Requirements

The Basics:

  • Communication: Strong verbal skills to coordinate with delivery drivers and internal teams.

  • Independence: Ability to manage tasks alone or work effectively as part of a larger group.

  • Physicality: Experience in manual handling is preferred, but LSA will provide full training if you haven’t done it before.

Benefits & Career Growth

Southend Airport emphasizes a culture of “the sky is the limit,” with many senior leaders having started in entry-level roles.

  • Education: Fully funded Apprenticeships (Level 3 up to Master’s Degree Level 7) in various disciplines.

  • Healthcare: Access to Medicash (virtual GP, physio, and cash-back for health expenses) and discounted BUPA dental.

  • Wellbeing: Employee Assistance Programme, mental health first aiders, and a dedicated wellbeing app.

  • Discounts: World Duty Free, Arriva buses, Costco membership, and “My Gym Discounts” (up to 25% off).

Why Southend Airport (LSA)?

LSA is a major employer for Southend City and is known for its inclusive environment. Joining “Team SENsational” provides a foot in the door to a wide range of aviation careers, from Security and Air Traffic Control to Firefighting and Technical Services.

Application Tip: Reliability for Small Shifts

When a role is only 6-8 hours a week, recruiters look for long-term commitment and extreme punctuality.

  1. Punctuality: Emphasize your track record of being on time. In a small-hour role, missing one shift is a large percentage of your weekly contribution.

  2. Safety First: Mention your awareness of health and safety, especially since you’ll be working in a busy airport environment with moving vehicles and heavy stock.

  3. Local Connection: LSA prioritizes roles for the community. If you live nearby and can easily commute for varied shift times, make sure to highlight that convenience.

Next Steps: Since you’ve been researching roles across Glasgow, Heathrow, and Luton, this Southend role offers a unique low-hour entry point.

  • Operational Recovery: As of March 2026, the airport is “business as usual,” having successfully transitioned through the administration of its former parent company without disrupting flight schedules.
