Expert Analysis

This is an entry-to-mid-level “Compliance” role within a massive logistics ecosystem. Working for a CN subsidiary provides a “gold-standard” name on your resume. While the base salary is on the conservative side for Ontario, the exposure to rail-specific customs—which is more complex than standard courier or truck clearance—makes this an excellent “stepping stone” for those looking to move into senior trade compliance or logistics management.

Location & Logistics Guide

Brampton is the logistics heart of Ontario, hosting major intermodal terminals. The IBS office is strategically located to manage the high volume of goods moving through the CN rail network. Be prepared for a fast-paced environment that mirrors the 24/7 nature of North American rail transport.

Career Path

A Customs Agent at IBS can advance into a Licensed Customs Broker role (often commanding salaries of $70k+), a Customs Manager, or transition into Corporate Trade Compliance for the parent company, CN. The skill set developed here—specifically in tariff reclassification and duty refunds—is highly portable across the global supply chain sector.
