Job Overview: Customer Engineer II, Platform (GCP)

Google Cloud is looking for a Customer Engineer II to serve as a high-level technical partner and trusted advisor for its enterprise customers in New York City. In this role, you aren’t just selling “the cloud”; you are architecting the future of digital transformation by solving complex business issues with Google’s cutting-edge infrastructure, data analytics, and AI.

You will sit at the intersection of Sales, Systems Architecture, and Software Engineering, driving the “technical win” by proving the value of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) through deep-dive workshops, prototypes, and proofs of concept (PoCs).

Key Responsibilities & Technical Impact

Solution Architecture & Strategy

  • Technical Ownership: Develop and own the technical account strategy, aligning GCP’s portfolio with the customer’s long-term business goals.

  • Cross-Pillar Design: Architect comprehensive solutions that span infrastructure modernization, application development, and data management.

  • Prototyping & Demos: Use your programming and debugging expertise to build pilots and demos that neutralize technical roadblocks and showcase GCP’s differentiation.

Sales Partnership & Execution

  • Driving the Win: Partner with Sales teams to navigate the technical evaluation phase, leading conversations with CTOs, developers, and IT directors.

  • Consumption Planning: Define the initial delivery and consumption plans, ensuring the customer has a clear roadmap from “contract signed” to “fully migrated.”

  • Post-Sales Transition: Facilitate a smooth handoff to implementation teams, providing ongoing support during the ramp and migration phases.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience: 6 years in cloud-native architecture within a customer-facing or support capacity.

  • Technical Breadth: Proficiency in cloud/on-premise engineering, virtualization, or containerization (Kubernetes/Docker).

  • Communication: Proven ability to present complex technical topics to executive leaders.

  • Skills: Experience in programming languages, systems design, and debugging.

  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Full Sales Cycle: Experience leading the entire sales motion, from discovery to execution.

  • Specialized Knowledge: Expertise in Cloud AI, security (encryption/IAM), networking, or large-scale migrations.

  • Strategy: Ability to uncover new workloads within existing accounts through long-term technical planning.

Compensation & Google Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $127,000 – $184,000 (Determined by location and experience).

  • Total Rewards: This position includes a performance bonus, equity (GSUs), and Google’s world-class benefits package.

Application Information

Interested “Googlers-to-be” should apply via the Google Careers portal. Your application should emphasize your ability to bridge the gap between low-level technical infrastructure and high-level business value.

The Company & Culture Google’s culture is defined by “Googley” values: a blend of high-level intellectual curiosity, a bias toward action, and a commitment to radical transparency. In 2026, the vibe in New York has evolved from the frenetic “startup energy” of its early days into a more mature, intentional community. While the office still features legendary perks—like themed micro-kitchens, massage rooms, and free gourmet meals—the focus has shifted toward “intentional connection.” A signature of the NYC office is its individual-focused but productive atmosphere, often described as quieter and more focused than its counterparts in Silicon Valley or Bengaluru. This is an environment that balances the freedom to “think big” with the rigorous discipline of one of the world’s most sophisticated technical organizations.

The Location Google’s New York presence is no longer just a building; it is an entire urban campus centered in Chelsea and Hudson Square.

  • 111 Eighth Avenue: The historic anchor, occupying an entire city block and serving as a massive engineering and business hub.

  • St. John’s Terminal (Hudson Square): Opened in 2024, this serves as the headquarters for Google’s Global Sales and Business teams, featuring a 1.3-million-square-foot space designed for hybrid collaboration.

  • Pier 57: A stunning waterfront location that includes Google offices, a massive 2-acre rooftop public park, and a James Beard Foundation-curated food hall (Market 57). Working here puts you at the heart of the “Silicon Alley” tech scene, with proximity to some of the world’s best dining, parks, and cultural landmarks.
