Answering to the Culinary Manager, the Cook handles the crafting and distribution of all meals for inhabitants, visitors, and staff members.

Key Responsibilities

  • To handle or oversee the crafting and distribution of all food items for inhabitants, visitors, and staff;

  • To examine food lists and output logs prior to meal crafting and ensure they are cooked and presented correctly and appealingly;

  • To maintain the application of correct food management methods;

  • To perform everyday temperature inspections for cooling units, deep freezes, and pantries, logging results on the everyday inspection sheet;

  • To craft and distribute meals for medicinal or specialized nutritional needs based on scheduled food lists;

  • To implement menu replacements when required and log these in the appropriate area;

  • To respect the designated chronologies for the distribution of meals and snacks;

  • To adhere to everyday output logs, uniform cooking instructions, and everyday combined food lists while operating within defined financial limits;

  • To follow all regional and local mandates as well as set food service department guidelines and protocols;

  • To take an energetic role in the design and crafting of holiday and themed dining events;

  • To be present at departmental and site employee gatherings, internal workshops, and other required educational programs;

  • To remain conscious of the Residents’ Rights and Responsibilities and strive to honor and advocate for them;

  • To engage in the Quality Enhancement Initiative;

  • To observe and follow occupational health and safety laws and departmental secure work protocols;

  • To operate in a role requiring confidence with at-risk seniors (inhabitants);

  • To maintain and advocate for the firm’s principles and outlook regarding ethics, virtue, and honesty;

  • To carry out additional tasks as directed.

Qualifications

  • Acquisition of a Food Handler’s Certificate is mandatory

  • Red Seal Certification is favored

  • Experience in bulk meal crafting is required, ideally within a medical or senior living environment

  • Knowledge regarding Regional Food Premises mandates and Canada’s Food Guide is necessary

  • Experience with and understanding of medicinal and specialized nutritional plans is required

  • Physical capability to move and carry heavy, heated objects and remain upright for most of the work period is mandatory

  • Fluency in an additional tongue is viewed as a benefit

  • Submission of a finished and recent (within half a year) Vulnerable Sector Screening (encompassing a Criminal Record Check) or readiness to acquire one is mandatory
