The Contract Instructor (Teaching Science) at Mount Royal University (MRU) is a specialized pedagogical role within the Bachelor of Education program. Key Responsibilities: The Science Pedagogy Lead
You will be responsible for bridging the gap between scientific theory and K-12 classroom practice.

Curriculum Instruction: Deeply explore the Alberta Program of Studies for Science, ensuring pre-service teachers understand the specific learner outcomes (SLOs) required at various grade levels.

Collaborative Teaching: Operate within a “co-teaching” or collaborative model, modeling the teamwork required in modern school environments.

Inquiry-Based Learning: Instruct students on how to facilitate “Scientific Inquiry” and “Problem Solving through Technology,” moving beyond rote memorization to hands-on experimentation.

Assessment Design: Teach future educators how to design both formative and summative assessments that accurately measure scientific literacy and critical thinking.

Condensed Delivery: Manage the unique pacing of a “condensed” course format, ensuring all core competencies are met within an accelerated timeframe.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications

The “Master Educator”: A Master’s degree in Education is required (Ph.D. preferred).

K-12 Expertise: Significant, firsthand experience teaching within the K-12 system is mandatory to provide authentic mentorship.

Subject Matter Wit: Deep familiarity with the Alberta K-12 science curriculum and modern pedagogical trends (e.g., STEAM, indigenous land-based learning).

Technical Insights: The 5E and Inquiry Frameworks
In EDUC 3106, you will likely emphasize the Nature of Science (NOS) and how to spark curiosity in young learners.
