About the Company: Toast
Toast is more than a Point-of-Sale (POS) system; it is the “all-in-one digital platform” built specifically for the restaurant community. Founded and operated by “restaurant people,” Toast is dedicated to helping local businesses thrive through technology, resources, and community. The company culture is defined by being “hungry to build and learn,” heavily integrating AI tools across Sales, Engineering, and Support to empower employees to work faster and more independently. At Toast, diversity is “baked into the recipe,” reflecting the incredibly diverse industry they serve.
Market & Industry Context
The restaurant landscape is undergoing a massive digital transformation, and the Mandarin-speaking culinary community is a vital, high-growth segment of this market. In San Antonio, “Strategic Cuisines” represent a unique opportunity to modernize traditional operations with digital ordering, payroll, and inventory management. As a Bilingual BDR, you are not just selling software; you are providing an accessibility bridge. Your ability to communicate complex technology in a client’s native language removes barriers to entry, allowing these businesses to compete in an increasingly tech-reliant economy.
Career Growth & Progression Path
Toast explicitly views the BDR role as a launching pad for long-term sales careers.
-
Promotion Track: Consistent high performers typically advance to Account Executive (AE) or Inside Sales Representative (ISR) roles.
-
Leadership: Opportunities to move into BDR Management or Sales Enablement, training the next generation of Mandarin-speaking representatives.
-
Specialization: Transitioning into Strategic Account Management or Product Marketing for international and specialty markets.
Interview Preparation Insights
-
The “Mandarin Pitch”: Be ready to demonstrate your language fluency by explaining a complex technology concept (like “cloud-based integration”) in Mandarin during the interview.
-
Resilience Scenarios: Expect questions about how you handle rejection. With a target of 65+ activities a day, they want to see that you have the “stamina” for high-volume outbound work.
-
AI Readiness: Since Toast values AI literacy, mention any experience you have with AI tools (like ChatGPT or Copilot) for summarization, research, or drafting outreach.
-
The “Why Toast?”: Research their specific impact on restaurants. Show that you understand the “restaurant person” mindset—authenticity and humility are key.
