Full Job Description

Aramark is a primary service provider in Kodiak, primarily supporting the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Base Kodiak—the largest Coast Guard base in the nation. Because this location is a critical military hub, Aramark’s roles are essential for maintaining the daily operations of the base’s “Galley” (dining hall), housing, and administrative facilities. Working here offers a unique opportunity to serve those who serve, within a tight-knit maritime community.

Typical Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Culinary & Food Service: Preparing and serving high-volume meals for military personnel and their families. This includes specialized roles like Lead Cooks, Food Service Workers, and Dishwashers, all operating under strict military and HACCP sanitation standards.

  • Environmental Services (EVS): Providing professional-grade cleaning and floor maintenance for base facilities, medical clinics, or offices. This involves handling industrial equipment and ensuring a sterile, safe environment.

  • Facilities & Maintenance: Handling general utility work, including light repairs, waste management, and groundskeeping to ensure the base remains operational throughout the rugged Kodiak winters.

  • Retail & Commissary Support: Managing inventory, stocking, and point-of-sale operations for on-site convenience stores or specialized dining kiosks.

  • Logistics: Coordinating the receipt of large food and supply shipments—often arriving via barge or air—and ensuring proper storage and inventory rotation.

Qualifications:

  • Security Clearance: Due to the location on a federal military installation, the ability to pass a rigorous background check and obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) or base credentials is a mandatory requirement.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills are required to work effectively in a team-based, often high-pressure military environment.

  • Experience: Entry-level roles are often available, but “Lead” or “Supervisor” positions typically require 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • Certifications: Must be able to obtain a State of Alaska Food Worker Card for any food-handling roles.

  • Physicality: Ability to stand for long shifts on hard surfaces and lift/move items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Company Benefits:

  • Mission-Driven Work: The unique satisfaction of supporting the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard.

  • Competitive Alaskan Wages: Pay rates in Kodiak often include a geographic premium to account for the high cost of living on the island.

  • Professional Development: Access to Aramark’s extensive training programs in safety, culinary arts, and management.

  • Health & Savings: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance options, along with 401(k) retirement plans for eligible employees.
