Job Overview: Assistant Professor of Philosophy (Tenure-Track)
Queensborough Community College (CUNY) is seeking a dedicated scholar-educator for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position within the Department of Social Sciences. Key Responsibilities & Academic Expectations
Teaching & Pedagogy

Course Load: The teaching workload is capped at 24 hours per academic year (typically eight 3-credit classes).

Curriculum: Instruct introductory and elective Philosophy courses, with a specific focus on Medical Ethics.

Innovation: Implement student-centered learning and “High-Impact Practices” (HIPs) to engage a student body diverse in language, race, gender, and college preparedness.
Research & Service

Scholarly Activity: Maintain an active research agenda and record of publication, which is required for tenure and promotion.

Advisement: Provide dedicated academic support and guidance to students navigating their degree paths.

Governance: Participate in departmental and college-wide committees, curriculum development, grant preparation, and program assessment.
Requirements & Qualifications
Mandatory Credentials

Education: A Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Philosophy from a regionally accredited institution is required by the start date (Fall 2026).
Preferred Experience

Community College Expertise: Prior experience teaching diverse student populations at the college level is highly valued.

Specialization: A proven record of scholarship or teaching experience in Medical Ethics is especially desirable.
