Job Summary: Asset Protection Specialist

Intro Are you a detail-oriented professional with a high degree of integrity and a passion for safety? As an Asset Protection Specialist, you will be the primary line of defense against financial loss. Your mission is to protect the company’s bottom line by mitigating theft and fraud while ensuring a safe, secure environment for our customers and associates. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer looking for vigilant individuals who can balance technical surveillance with effective community engagement.

About the Role This is a critical operational role that combines investigative work with physical security management. You will spend your time identifying incidents of theft, reviewing high-definition CCTV footage, and analyzing exception reports to spot patterns of fraud. Beyond surveillance, you will lead the “shrink elimination” culture in your store, ensuring that Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems are functional and that all safety protocols are strictly followed. When incidents occur, you are responsible for the entire lifecycle of the case—from secure apprehension and evidence preservation to collaborating with law enforcement and providing testimony in court.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Loss Prevention: Identify and mitigate incidents of external and internal theft and fraud using advanced tools.

  • Surveillance & Auditing: Monitor CCTV feeds, review exception reports, and audit store physical security systems like EAS.

  • Legal & Documentation: Prepare detailed case reports for all apprehensions and recoveries; preserve evidence and testify in criminal or civil court as required.

  • Safety & Compliance: Monitor the store for hazardous conditions, support environmental program compliance, and report safety risks to the Manager on Duty.

  • Culture Leadership: Drive a store-wide awareness of “shrink” (inventory loss) and provide asset protection guidance to all associates.

Qualifications & Traits:

  • Integrity: Must demonstrate unwavering ethical standards and professionalism at all times.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data reports and surveillance footage to identify suspicious activity.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for report writing and interacting with law enforcement.

  • Decisiveness: Ability to remain calm and focused during high-pressure situations or apprehensions.

  • Legal Readiness: Willingness to engage with the judicial system for case resolution.

The Impact of Asset Protection In the retail industry, “shrink” accounts for billions of dollars in losses annually. Asset Protection Specialists play a vital role in keeping prices affordable for customers by reducing these losses.

  • Internal vs. External: While many focus on shoplifting, Asset Protection also addresses administrative errors and internal fraud, which can account for up to 30% of total retail shrink.

  • Safety First: Your role in identifying environmental hazards directly reduces workplace accidents, making you a key player in the store’s overall operational health.
