Website British American Household Staffing

Job Overview: Specialized Mandarin-Speaking Nanny (Downtown NYC)

A “kind and joyful” family in Downtown Manhattan is seeking a high-level Mandarin-Speaking Nanny to support their three daughters (ages 5, 3, and a newborn born this month). This is a collaborative role, working alongside an existing full-time nanny and a household chef.

The primary goal of this position is to maintain Mandarin immersion at home, as the children are enrolled in a Mandarin-immersion preschool and the oldest is transitioning to kindergarten. The family is exceptionally flexible regarding the schedule and is even willing to provide a housing stipend or relocate the right candidate.

Job Details & Responsibilities

Language & Educational Engagement

  • Mandarin Immersion: Interact exclusively (or primarily) in Mandarin through reading, singing, and developmental play to reinforce the children’s school curriculum.

  • Engagement: Create a high-energy, playful environment that encourages curiosity and learning.

  • School Support: Manage the school-to-home transition for the older children, including transport from school and to extracurricular activities.

Team-Based Household Support

  • Collaborative Care: Work in tandem with the current full-time nanny and parents to care for the newborn and toddlers.

  • Meal Coordination: Oversee mealtimes and handle light, child-specific meal prep (supporting the household chef).

  • Travel Logistics: Assist with packing/unpacking for family trips; occasional travel is optional but welcomed.

  • Professional Boundaries: Maintain a “secure” presence, understanding when to be hands-on and when to give the family space.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Language: Native or fluent proficiency in Mandarin is mandatory.

  • Team Player: Must be comfortable working in a staffed home with other nannies, a chef, and involved parents.

  • Health & Safety: Must be fully COVID-18 vaccinated and authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Environment: Must be comfortable with a dog in the home.

  • Demeanor: Energetic, warm, and responsible with a good sense of humor.

Salary, Schedule & Benefits

  • Employer: British American Household Staffing (Job Code: AS662)

  • Location: Downtown Manhattan, NY (Relocation/Housing Stipend available).

  • Hourly Rate: $40.00 – $60.00+ per hour (depending on experience).

  • Schedule: Highly Flexible.

    • Minimum Requirement: 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM (Monday–Friday).

    • Options: The family is open to making this a full-time or part-time role based on the nanny’s preference.

  • Benefits: Full health insurance, generous PTO, and a potential housing stipend.

Why This Role?

At $60/hour, this is one of the highest-paying nanny positions in NYC, reflecting the specialized language skills required. The family’s willingness to build the schedule around the nanny’s needs—and provide a housing stipend—makes this a rare, “Gold Standard” placement. It is ideal for a professional educator or career nanny who wants to focus on language development while working within a supportive, fully-staffed household team.
