Job Overview: Adjunct Faculty, Mechanical Engineering

Manhattan University is seeking qualified Adjunct Faculty to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering within the School of Engineering. Located in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, the university is an independent Catholic Lasallian institution that emphasizes a student-centered approach to engineering education.

This role is designed for subject matter experts—either from academia or industry—who are passionate about teaching the next generation of engineers. Instruction is delivered in person on campus, with opportunities to teach during both daytime and evening hours to accommodate various schedules.


Key Responsibilities & Instructional Focus

Teaching & Laboratory Instruction

  • Course Delivery: Teach undergraduate and/or graduate mechanical engineering courses and laboratories in assigned specialized areas.

  • Curriculum Alignment: Deliver course materials, assignments, and assessments that align with departmental expectations and ABET accreditation standards.

  • Student Support: Maintain regular communication with students, provide timely feedback on coursework, and hold office hours to ensure student success.

Collaboration & Quality Assurance

  • Departmental Synergy: Work closely with course coordinators and department leadership to maintain consistency in course content and learning outcomes across the program.

  • Professional Standards: Contribute to the university’s mission of preparing students for professional success and civic engagement.


Requirements & Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Minimum Requirement: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant STEM field.

  • Foundational Degree: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related STEM discipline is required.

Professional Experience

  • Teaching: Prior experience in college-level instruction is strongly preferred.

  • Industry Practice: Professional engineering practice (P.E. license or significant industry tenure) is highly valued and preferred for bringing real-world context to the classroom.

  • Location: Riverdale, NY (Bronx). This is an in-person, on-campus role.
