Energy Solutions Advisor (Ottawa, ON) – Hybrid

Website Enbridge Contingent Talent Community

Job Summary

The Energy Solutions Advisor at Enbridge (contracted via Raise) is a high-level technical consultancy role focused on decarbonization and energy conservation in Ottawa’s commercial and affordable housing sectors. As a “Sustainability Strategist,” you are responsible for identifying natural gas reduction opportunities and guiding them through a complex technical and financial verification process. This role requires the “wit” to perform custom energy-saving calculations and the “grit” to manage a diverse portfolio of site walkthroughs and stakeholder negotiations across Eastern Ontario.

Job Details

  • Employer: Enbridge (Contingent Talent Community via Raise).

  • Location: 2571 Lancaster Rd, Ottawa, ON.

  • Work Style: Hybrid (In-office Mon, Tue, Thu; Remote Wed, Fri).

  • Status: 12-month Contract.

  • Field Requirement: Approximately 50% field-based; involves travel within Ontario and site visits.

Key Responsibilities: The Conservation Lifecycle

You lead the “Demand Side Management” (DSM) process, turning technical potential into verified energy savings.

  • Technical Assessments: Conduct on-site walkthroughs of commercial facilities to evaluate HVAC, boiler, and building automation systems (BAS).

  • Energy Modeling: Perform custom savings calculations and technical evaluations to determine the viability of conservation projects.

  • Account Management: Develop and execute annual plans for assigned territories, building long-term trust with property managers and plant engineers.

  • Advocacy & Education: Represent Enbridge at industry forums and trade shows, presenting conservation programs to encourage market participation.

  • Verification & Audit: Ensure all project documentation is “audit-ready,” supporting Measurement and Verification (M&V) activities to prove actual gas reductions.

  • Market Intelligence: Provide “boots-on-the-ground” insights to internal teams to help refine future energy-efficiency program designs.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

  • The “Engineer-Salesperson”: A University degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering is preferred.

  • Experience: 4+ years of project engineering or technical sales in commercial environments (7+ years if no degree).

  • Technical Wit: Exceptional understanding of Commercial HVAC systems, boilers, and the Ontario Building Code.

  • Certifications: Membership with PEO (Professional Engineers of Ontario) and designations like CEM (Certified Energy Manager) or CMVP (Certified Measurement and Verification Professional) are major assets.

  • Communication Grit: Proven ability to influence stakeholders without explicit authority and present complex technical data to non-technical audiences.

  • Mobility: Must have a valid Ontario G-class driver’s license for frequent site visits.

Technical Insights: Demand Side Management (DSM)

In the 2026 energy landscape, DSM is a critical tool for utility providers to defer infrastructure costs and meet environmental targets.

  • The M&V Protocol: You will likely work with the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) to quantify the “Avoided Energy Use.”

  • BAS and Controls: A key part of the role involves evaluating Building Automation Systems. Often, significant savings are found not just in new hardware, but in “Sequence of Operations” (SOO) optimizations that reduce simultaneous heating and cooling.

  • Thermal Envelope: You will assess building sciences—insulation, glazing, and air sealing—to understand how the building “skin” affects the load on natural gas heating systems.

Why the Enbridge/Raise Partnership?

  • Hybrid Flexibility: The structured hybrid model (3 days in-office) provides the “face time” needed for collaboration at the Lancaster Road office while offering remote flexibility.
