Job Overview: Academic Affairs Coordinator (Cornell Tech)
Cornell Tech, Cornell University’s graduate campus on Roosevelt Island, is seeking an Academic Affairs Coordinator. This role is a central point of contact for a growing population of over 700 graduate students across ten master’s programs and multiple PhD tracks. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Graduate Education, the Coordinator ensures the smooth execution of student employment, registrar functions, and campus-wide academic events.
This is a hybrid position (in-person on Roosevelt Island and remote) and is a 3-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal.
Key Responsibilities
Student Employment & Funding (30%)

PhD Appointments: Oversee the appointment of PhD students to Teaching Assistantships (TAs) and Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs).

TA Management: Review student experience to match them with appropriate courses and determine assignments.

Funding Liaison: Partner with Associate Deans and Ithaca-based offices to recommend and process funding for PhD candidates.

Graders: Manage the hiring and employment process for student graders.
Registrar Support (30%)

Records Maintenance: Partner with the Assistant Registrar on course enrollment, degree audits, and the maintenance of student academic records.

Compliance: Serve as a backup for grading compliance and data management.

Evaluations: Administer and analyze mid-semester and end-of-semester course surveys to measure student success and satisfaction.
Student Advising (20%)

Direct Support: Respond to inquiries via the Student Affairs alias and hold weekly office hours to advise on curriculum, enrollment, and graduation requirements.

Policy Interpretation: Act as a resource for interpreting program-specific graduation requirements and university procedures for students and faculty.

Problem Resolution: Identify students with specific needs or in distress and provide appropriate referrals.
Events & Administration (20%)

Campus Events: Collaborate on large-scale events including New Student Orientations, PhD Visit Days, and the end-of-year Recognition Ceremony.

Community Building: Support student life initiatives and socials to foster a culture of belonging.
Requirements & Qualifications
Mandatory Credentials

Education: Bachelor’s degree.

Experience: 1-2 years of professional experience in a higher education setting working directly with students.

Technical Skills: Experience with university student information systems and student employment processes.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with high organizational capacity.
Preferred Skills

Graduate Focus: Specific experience supporting graduate-level populations.

Advanced Degree: Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or a related field.

Analytical Ability: Experience with data management and survey analysis.

Compensation & Position Details

Starting Salary Range: $68,786 – $74,835.

Total Pay Opportunity: Up to $89,091 (based on experience and unique skills).

Location: Hybrid (Roosevelt Island, NYC / Remote within the U.S.).

Status: Full-time, benefits-eligible, 3-year term.
