Job Overview: Student Engagement Assistant

New York University (NYU) is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and student-focused Student Engagement Assistant to help cultivate a vibrant, inclusive campus culture. In this role, you are a primary architect of the student experience, working to bridge the gap between academic life and social belonging.

You will join the Student Engagement team to design and execute high-impact programs that encourage students to thrive personally and socially. From organizing large-scale campus events to mentoring student leaders, your work ensures that every student feels a deep sense of connection to the NYU community.


Key Responsibilities & Community Initiatives

Event Planning & Execution

  • Logistics Management: Oversee the end-to-end details of campus events, including venue reservations, scheduling, vendor coordination, and budget tracking.

  • Innovative Programming: Use a creative mindset to develop new initiatives that promote student involvement and enhance the overall “NYU experience.”

  • Volunteer Leadership: Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of student volunteers and event staff.

Student Advocacy & Relationship Building

  • Campus Liaison: Act as a vital link between the student body and university administration, addressing concerns and elevating student suggestions.

  • Resource Navigation: Serve as a “go-to” guide for students, providing information on campus resources, opportunities, and involvement.

  • Partnership Development: Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with student organizations, faculty, and various campus partners.

Strategy & Reporting

  • Inclusion Standards: Serve as a role model for diversity and inclusion, ensuring all programs align with NYU’s mission and reach a broad, diverse audience.

  • Data & Evaluation: Maintain accurate records of event attendance and engagement metrics to evaluate program success and inform future strategies.

  • Trend Awareness: Stay informed on current best practices in higher education student affairs to continuously improve campus offerings.


Requirements & Professional Profile

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills to effectively promote events and gather stakeholder feedback.

  • Organization: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail.

  • Collaboration: A proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals, including students, faculty, staff, and external vendors.

  • Mindset: Self-motivated, adaptable, and deeply committed to fostering a multicultural and inclusive environment.

Preferred Background

  • Student Leadership: Previous experience in student government, campus activities, or residential life is a significant plus.
