Job Summary
The Teaching & Learning Administrator (TLA) at the Haskayne School of Business (HSB) is a vital operational role within the Programs Office. Functioning as a “Pedagogical Support Lead,” you will provide high-level administrative assistance to faculty and sessional instructors, ensuring the seamless delivery of business education. This role requires the “wit” to master complex Learning Management Systems (LMS) and the “grit” to manage peak academic cycles where deadlines are tight and the operational impact is significant.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Operations (Centralized Support): Lead the intake and triage of faculty requests. You are the primary point of contact for course logistics, from coordinating deferred exams to managing classroom room bookings.

Academic Compliance: Act as a “Quality Assurance Officer” by reviewing course materials and assessments for accuracy and ensuring they comply with university policies and copyright legislation.

LMS Subject Matter Expert: Provide technical support for D2L/Brightspace. You will assist with course creation, content migration, and the configuration of electronic grading and online exams.

Procurement & Resource Management: Manage the end-to-end procurement of textbooks, cases, and simulations, liaising with publishers to ensure students have timely access to materials.

Financial Accountability: Handle financial reconciliation for teaching operations, including credit card reconciliations and instructor reimbursement claims.

Workforce Support: Provide onboarding for new administrative hires and serve as backup support for the Course Demand & Scheduling team during peak sessional appointment periods.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications

The “Academic Professional”: Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible administrative experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment.

Educational Foundation: Post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree in a related field.

Technical Wit: Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, and Zoom, with a strong aptitude for learning and supporting instructional technologies.

Operational Grit: Proven ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, managing multiple complex tasks amid frequent interruptions.
Technical Insights: The Academic Delivery Cycle
The TLA role follows the “rhythm” of the academic year, where the workload shifts based on the semester calendar.

Peak Periods: The start and end of terms (Fall, Winter, and Summer) involve high-intensity deliverables like course shell setup and final exam logistics.

Knowledge Transfer: You will maintain archival systems to ensure that when a new instructor takes over a course, the “institutional memory” of those teaching materials is preserved.

Instructional Risk Mitigation: By troubleshooting technology challenges in real-time, you ensure that technical glitches do not disrupt the student learning experience.
