Job Summary

The Brand Ambassador for Omella at the Haskayne School of Business is a high-impact, peer-to-peer sales and marketing role designed for “connected” students. Operating as a “Fintech Growth Lead,” you are responsible for migrating University of Calgary clubs, fraternities, and societies from messy spreadsheets and personal e-transfers to Omella’s streamlined payment platform. This role requires the “wit” to pitch to student executives and the “grit” to build a user base from scratch in a competitive campus environment.

Job Details

  • Employer: Omella (Fintech Startup founded by Remind.com creators).

  • Target Location: Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary.

  • Compensation: $30–$50 per hour (High earning potential based on performance).

  • Position Type: Part-time, Student Role (On-campus/Remote hybrid).

  • Core Function: User Acquisition & Brand Awareness.

Key Responsibilities: The Startup Growth Engine

You will act as the face of Omella at Haskayne, focusing on solving the “payment headache” for student leaders.

  • Lead Generation: Identify and map out all active clubs, Greek life organizations, and business fraternities at UCalgary that collect dues or sell tickets.

  • Strategic Pitching: Meet with club treasurers and presidents to explain how Omella automates collections for ski trips, formals, and membership intake without hitting personal tax IDs.

  • Marketing Execution: Raise awareness through social media, campus events, and word-of-mouth, focusing on Omella’s “free-to-use” model.

  • Onboarding Support: Help student groups set up their first digital storefronts or fundraising pages to replace manual tracking.

  • Reporting: Track your outreach efforts and user sign-ups, reporting back to the Omella growth team on campus trends and feedback.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

  • The “Haskayne Hustler”: Must be a current student at the Haskayne School of Business with a strong local network.

  • Sales Wit: A natural ability to communicate, persuade, and explain technical benefits (like payment security and tax isolation) to non-technical peers.

  • Marketing Grit: Self-motivated and comfortable working independently without a traditional office structure.

  • Passion for Tech: An interest in fintech, disruptive startups, and the “future of payments.”

  • Availability: Flexible hours that fit around your academic schedule, with a presence on the UCalgary campus.

Technical Insights: The Omella Advantage

In the student organization space, “Friction” is the enemy of fundraising.

  • Tax ID Separation: A major selling point you will use is that Omella doesn’t link to a student’s personal Social Insurance Number (SIN), protecting student leaders from personal tax liabilities on group funds.

  • The “Venmo for Groups” Model: While individual apps are for 1-to-1 payments, Omella provides a Dashboard view. You will show treasurers how to see who has paid and who is “overdue” at a glance, eliminating the need for manual spreadsheets.

  • Automated Reminders: You will demonstrate how the platform sends “nudge” notifications to members, saving club executives hours of “chasing money” via text.

Diversity and Statistics at UCalgary

Being a Brand Ambassador at Haskayne places you in one of Canada’s most diverse business environments.

  • Student Body: Haskayne serves over 4,000 students within the broader UCalgary community of 36,000. This provides a massive “Total Addressable Market” (TAM) for your ambassador work.

  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: UCalgary is Canada’s leader in start-up creation. This role perfectly aligns with the university’s mission to foster “entrepreneurial thinking” in its students.

  • Indigenous Strategy (ii’ taa’poh’to’p): As you promote Omella to diverse campus groups, you will be part of a campus committed to inclusive community partnerships and welcoming diverse perspectives.

Job Description

Do you believe that student leaders should spend more time planning events and less time acting as debt collectors? Omella is seeking a Brand Ambassador at the Haskayne School of Business. We aren’t just an app; we are a movement to give students their time back by radically disrupting how groups collect money. If you have the “grit” to close a deal with a business fraternity and the “wit” to market a high-growth startup, you belong with us.

In this role, you are a “Fintech Pioneer.” You understand the pain of the “last 10%” who never pay their dues on time. Your goal is to provide “Excellence in User Growth,” ensuring every club at Haskayne knows there is a better way to fundraise. We look for “Integrity-first” students who are social, sales-oriented, and ready to add a Forbes-featured startup to their resume.

Joining Omella means working with founders who have already scaled apps to 30 million users. We offer top-tier training in marketing fundamentals and communication that will serve you long after graduation. If you are a Haskayne student with a commitment to “Innovation and Campus Leadership,” we invite you to apply and start earning while you help your peers focus on what really matters.

Omella: Disrupting the “Spreadsheet Headache” at Haskayne

Omella is a high-growth fintech startup on a mission to simplify how groups—specifically university clubs, Greek life, and student organizations—manage money and forms. Their culture is defined by agility, disruption, and a “founder-led” energy. Created by the minds behind Remind.com (a massive ed-tech success), Omella operates with the speed of a Silicon Valley startup while maintaining a laser focus on solving a very human problem: the awkwardness and administrative burden of “chasing people for money.” The workplace vibe is entrepreneurial, tech-forward, and results-oriented, valuing students who can bridge the gap between sophisticated financial tech and the social fabric of campus life.

At the Haskayne School of Business | University of Calgary, the Omella presence is strategically tied to the city’s premier hub for future business leaders:

  • The Haskayne Connection: Operating out of Scurfield Hall (2500 University Dr NW), Omella Brand Ambassadors tap into a network of over 4,000 students and dozens of specialized clubs, from the Management Information Systems Association (MISA) to the Haskayne Commerce Undergraduate Society (CUS).

  • The “Venmo for Clubs” Solution: In a Canadian landscape where peer-to-peer group collection has historically been fragmented, Omella provides a specialized alternative to e-Transfers and spreadsheets. It allows Haskayne student leaders to automate dues, event ticketing (like for the Haskayne Meltdown), and merchandise sales without tying funds to a personal bank account.

  • A “Living Lab” for Sales: For a Haskayne student, this isn’t just a gig; it’s a practicum in B2B (Business-to-Business) sales and relationship management. Ambassadors operate as consultants for student orgs, helping them modernize their financial infrastructure.

Working for Omella at UCalgary means being at the intersection of Calgary’s growing fintech scene and the highly social, competitive environment of a top-tier business school. You are essentially a localized “startup founder,” responsible for market penetration within one of the most concentrated pockets of student activity in Western Canada.
