Job Overview: Utility Worker – Dietary (Part-Time)

The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) is seeking a reliable Part-Time Utility Worker for its Dietary department. Located in the heart of Foggy Bottom, D.C., GW Hospital is a premier academic medical center that serves everyone from local residents to national leaders.

In this role, you are a critical part of the hospitality and healthcare link, ensuring that the equipment and utensils used to feed patients, staff, and visitors meet the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation.


Key Responsibilities & Dietary Operations

Sanitation & Maintenance

  • General Cleaning: Responsible for the thorough cleaning and sanitization of kitchen equipment, serving utensils, and dietary ware.

  • Department Upkeep: Maintain the cleanliness of the dishwashing area and associated dietary workspaces to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Equipment Handling: Apply basic skills to operate industrial dishwashers and other cleaning tools appropriate for a high-volume hospital kitchen.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Information Exchange: Effectively communicate with fellow employees to ensure the smooth flow of clean supplies to the serving lines.

  • Following Protocols: Receive and execute instructions from dietary management to maintain the hospital’s “world-class service” standards.


Requirements & Qualifications

Professional Profile

  • Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Experience: No previous experience is required. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to enter the healthcare or hospitality field.

  • Skills: Ability to develop advanced skills in using specialized cleaning equipment.
