The Director of Corporate Strategy (Lead Airport Strategy & Growth) at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) is a high-level executive role responsible for the long-term “Flight Path” of Toronto Pearson (YYZ). Reporting to the senior executive leadership, you are the primary architect of the airport’s strategic master plan, identifying multi-billion dollar business opportunities and ensuring sustainable growth. This position requires the “wit” to navigate complex global aviation trends and the “grit” to lead a multidisciplinary team through large-scale business transformations in a high-stakes, 24/7 environment.

  • Salary Range: $125,000 – $150,000 per annum.

  • Experience: 10+ years in corporate strategy, management consulting, or aviation leadership.

  • Core Mandate: Strategic planning, business opportunity assessment, and organizational growth.


Key Accountabilities

  • Strategic Roadmap Development: Lead the creation and execution of the GTAA’s multi-year corporate strategy, aligning operational goals with long-term commercial and sustainability targets.

  • Market Intelligence: Conduct deep-dive competitive analyses of global hub airports to identify emerging trends in passenger experience, cargo logistics, and digital transformation.

  • Business Growth Assessment: Evaluate the feasibility of new revenue streams, including non-aeronautical land development, retail innovation, and international aviation partnerships.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Direct a high-performing strategy team, fostering a culture of “Excellence in Execution” and providing strategic guidance to various business units.

  • Executive Advisory: Prepare evidence-based briefings, financial models, and board presentations to support the CEO and Board of Directors in high-level decision-making.

  • Transformation Management: Oversee the implementation of “Modernization Initiatives” that improve airport performance and operational efficiency.

  • ESG Integration: Ensure that corporate strategy remains aligned with the GTAA’s bold commitment to environmental sustainability and community prosperity.


Candidate Profile

  • The “Strategy Veteran”: Over 10 years of experience in corporate strategy, ideally with exposure to large-scale infrastructure, transportation, or a top-tier consulting firm.

  • Leadership Grit: A proven track record of managing and mentoring diverse teams to achieve complex organizational objectives.

Technical Insights: The Strategic Planning Horizon

Leading a global hub requires a three-tiered approach to strategy:

  • The Airport Master Plan: You will work on the 20-year vision for land use, terminal expansion, and runway capacity, ensuring the physical infrastructure can support forecasted passenger growth.

  • The Digital Twin Strategy: Leveraging technology to create a digital model of the airport, allowing for real-time simulation of “what-if” scenarios for operational bottlenecks.

  • Non-Aeronautical Revenue Diversification: Moving beyond landing fees to leverage “Airport City” assets, such as logistics hubs, commercial real estate, and premium retail experiences.
