You are the “Operational Bridge” that ensures new projects, facility changes, and system upgrades transition into the live airport environment without disrupting the passenger journey. This position requires the “wit” to interpret complex statistical data and the “grit” to lead integrated trials in a 24/7 terminal that never stops moving.

Job Details

  • Employer: Vancouver Airport Authority (YVR).

  • Location: Richmond, BC (On-site at Sea Island).

  • Position Type: Full-time Term (to March 2027).

  • Salary Range: $75,766 – $99,027 per annum (37.5-hour work week).

  • Reporting To: Manager, Terminal Operations (Readiness and Delivery).

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Readiness (ORAT): Lead integrated operational trials to ensure that staff, systems, and equipment are ready for “Go-Live” scenarios.

  • Change Management: Develop and implement contingency plans for planned disruptions, ensuring that passenger, baggage, and aircraft flows remain optimized and safe.

  • Data-Driven Decisions: Conduct audits, performance monitoring, and data collection to provide visibility into live operations and improve service delivery.

  • Stakeholder Integration: Facilitate meetings and deliver presentations to align internal departments and external partners who may have competing priorities.

  • Process Documentation: Draft operational procedures, briefings, and training materials to standardize new workflows.

  • Irregular Operations (IROPS): Create service delivery change management plans to handle unexpected impacts on terminal flow.

Candidate Profile

  • Education: Minimum 2 years of post-secondary education in Aviation Management, Business, or Logistics.

  • Technical Wit: Strong analytical ability to assess cause-and-effect implications across interdependent airport systems.

  • Communication: Exceptional negotiation and facilitation skills; French language skills are considered a “Plus” for federal language obligations.

  • Software: Proficiency in Microsoft 365, with specific competency in SharePoint.

Technical Insights: The Readiness & Delivery Framework

At YVR, “Delivery” means ensuring that a project doesn’t just finish on paper, but functions perfectly on the terminal floor.

  • ORAT (Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer): This methodology is used to bridge the gap between construction and operations. You will simulate “Stress Days” where you test how new gates or baggage carousels handle peak-hour loads.

  • Impact Mitigation: You will use statistical techniques and simulation modeling to predict how closing a specific security lane for maintenance will impact wait times throughout the rest of the terminal.

  • The Passenger Journey: You view the airport through a “Touchpoint” lens—from the curb to the gate—ensuring that every change enhances the efficiency of the flow.
