Job Summary

The Project Support, Technology specialist at AECOM is a highly technical, data-centric role focused on the digital lifecycle of a major airport project in Mississauga (Toronto Pearson area). As a “Digital Twin Custodian,” you are responsible for the management, versioning, and standardization of complex Building Information Modeling (BIM), CADD, and GIS data. This position requires the “wit” to manage enterprise-grade document systems and the “grit” to ensure that thousands of technical records—from O&M manuals to 3D models—remain accurate, accessible, and secure for a world-class aviation hub.

Job Details

  • Employer: AECOM (Global infrastructure consulting leader).

  • Location: Mississauga, ON (On-site, 5 days a week).

  • Position Type: Full-time.

  • Core Mandate: Digital project support, BIM coordination, and technical document control for a “CLIENT” airport program.

  • Reporting To: CLIENT BIM Specialists and Project Leadership.

Core Responsibilities

  • BIM Lifecycle Management: Develop workflows for tracking BIM model versions and assist in updating models to the latest supported application versions (e.g., Revit).

  • Document Control: Maintain the “single source of truth” for all technical records, including O&M manuals, reports, studies, and GIS data sets.

  • Workflow Optimization: Establish protocols for status tracking, plan turnover, and filing standards across internal and external design teams.

  • Stakeholder Facilitation: Respond to requests for drawings and reports; prepare transmittal records and Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) for third-party data sharing.

  • Technical Auditing: Regularly review BIM models to prepare specific views, sections, and details; ensure models meet the required Level of Detail (LOD).

  • Standards Maintenance: Conduct annual reviews of CADD/BIM standards and update naming conventions to align with evolving technology.

  • Training & Guidance: Provide hands-on training to the project team on established BIM and document control standards.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years working with technical construction drawings/documents, specifically as a BIM Specialist or Coordinator.

  • Education: Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Computer Science; BA/BS + 4 years of experience is the minimum requirement.

  • Software Wit: * Document Management: Bentley ProjectWise, Autodesk Construction Cloud, SharePoint.

    • Design Tools: Autodesk Revit, Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer.

    • Geospatial: ESRI ArcGIS.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to facilitate workshops for large groups of stakeholders.

  • Detail Orientation: High precision in assigning drawing numbers and maintaining complex archival systems.

Technical Insights: The Airport Digital Lifecycle

In modern airport development, the physical building is inseparable from its “Digital Twin.”

  • BIM Level of Development (LOD): You will manage models that transition from LOD 300 (detailed design) to LOD 500 (as-built for operations). Each level requires a “wit-first” approach to data accuracy.

  • Geospatial Integration (BIM + GIS): Airports are small cities. Integrating BIM (the building) with GIS (the land and utilities) allows the airport to manage everything from underground fuel lines to terminal HVAC systems.

  • Common Data Environment (CDE): Systems like ProjectWise or Autodesk Construction Cloud act as the CDE, preventing “data silos” where contractors and designers use outdated information.
