Job Summary: Senior Full Stack Developer
City Facilities Management (UK), one of the UK’s largest privately owned facilities management companies, is seeking a Senior Full Stack Developer to join their Glasgow-based engineering team. In this role, you will be a technical leader responsible for the end-to-end delivery of robust, scalable software solutions that support the company’s vast operational infrastructure.
As a Senior, you will move beyond simple execution to help shape the architectural roadmap, mentor junior talent, and ensure that “clean architecture” and security are baked into every release.
Key Responsibilities
1. Full Stack Software Development
-
End-to-End Delivery: Develop high-quality technical solutions across both front-end (Angular) and back-end (.NET) systems.
-
Optimization: Ensure applications are optimized for maximum performance, security, and scalability.
-
Troubleshooting: Act as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues, debugging across the entire technology stack.
-
Quality Assurance: Lead unit testing, participate in rigorous code reviews, and ensure all software meets technical specifications.
2. Technical Leadership & Mentorship
-
Architecture: Contribute to the design and planning of complex systems, adhering to “Clean Architecture” and Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.
-
Mentoring: Coach and support junior and mid-level developers to improve overall code quality and team skill sets.
-
Technical Debt: Proactively identify and address technical debt, proposing long-term solutions for system maintainability.
-
Project Ownership: Drive major features from initial concept through to final delivery and release.
Role Details
-
Location: Glasgow, United Kingdom (Head Office).
-
Basis: Permanent, Full-time.
-
Company Culture: Focused on transparency, collaboration, and high performance with a “continuous improvement” mindset.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
-
Experience: 5+ years in a professional software development role.
-
Back-End: Deep expertise in the Microsoft .NET stack (C#, ASP.NET, MVC, SQL Server).
-
Front-End: Proficiency in Angular and TypeScript.
-
Integrations: Strong experience with RESTful Web APIs.
-
Workflow: Mastery of GIT and experience in both Agile and Waterfall frameworks.
Desirable:
-
Cloud: Experience with Azure Cloud Services and Azure DevOps.
-
Modern Frameworks: Knowledge of .NET Core, Entity Framework, and CI/CD pipelines.
-
Architecture: Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Event-Driven systems, or Clean Architecture.
-
Education: Degree-level qualification in a relevant field.
The Modern Full-Stack Ecosystem
At City FM, you will be working within a modern “Clean Architecture” framework. This ensures that business logic is separated from external concerns like databases or UI, making the system easier to test and maintain.
Why this is a “Career Grade” Role
-
High-Impact Domain: Facilities Management is a data-heavy industry. Your code will manage real-world assets, energy efficiency, and maintenance schedules for major retail and corporate clients.
-
Technical Ownership: You aren’t just a “ticket-taker.” You are expected to contribute to architectural decisions and have a say in the technical roadmap.
-
Supportive Environment: The role explicitly prioritizes “making time to support other members of the squad,” fostering a culture where senior developers are valued for their leadership as much as their code.
Application Tip: Showcase your “Senior” Mindset
City FM is looking for a pragmatic leader who focuses on “outcomes rather than outputs.”
-
DDD & Architecture: If you have experience with Domain-Driven Design, highlight a specific project where you helped define “bounded contexts” or simplified a complex business domain.
-
Mentorship Examples: Be prepared to discuss how you have helped a junior developer grow or how you implemented a process that improved the team’s velocity (e.g., introducing automated testing or a new code review standard).
-
Pragmatism: Mention a time you had to balance “perfect code” with a hard business deadline, and how you managed that technical debt afterward.
City Facilities Management (UK) is one of the world’s largest privately owned facilities management companies, headquartered in the heart of Glasgow. Founded in 1985 by Lord and Lady Haughey as a refrigeration maintenance firm, it has evolved into a global powerhouse that manages everything from supermarket cleaning to complex electrical engineering. The company is defined by its “partnership model,” where it acts as an integrated extension of its clients’ businesses rather than a traditional third-party contractor, famously managing nearly all aspects of Asda’s UK retail estate for over 30 years.
Culture and Location
The company is headquartered at Caledonia House, 2 Lawmoor Street, Glasgow, G5 0US. Despite its global reach (with major hubs in the US, Australia, and Asia), it remains a family-led business at its core, emphasizing a “OneCity” culture of collaboration and transparency. The workplace is known for its fast-paced, “can-do” attitude and a heavy investment in staff training. Through its Pathways leadership program, over 70% of participants have progressed into leadership roles, reflecting a strong commitment to internal promotion and “growing their own” talent.

-
CBES (City Building Engineering Services): The specialist arm for large-scale construction, fit-outs, and mechanical/electrical engineering.
-
Energy Management: A dedicated team focusing on carbon reduction and reducing energy consumption across thousands of retail sites.
-
Fire & Security: Providing mission-critical protection, system installation, and compliance training.
2026 Strategy and Innovation
In 2026, City is heavily focused on its “Smarter Together” digital initiative. This involves the rollout of AI-powered predictive maintenance tools that analyze real-time data from refrigeration and HVAC units to fix faults before they cause downtime. Furthermore, as an active member of the Supply Chain Sustainability Council, the firm is currently overhauling its fleet to 100% electric vehicles to meet its upcoming 2030 carbon neutrality milestone.
