Job Description
Are you someone who prefers the open air to an office desk and takes pride in a hard day’s work? Valleyview Co-op is looking for a Yard Team Member to join our team in Drumheller. We aren’t just a retail store; we are a cooperative owned by the very neighbors we serve. If you have the “grit” to handle heavy loads in the heat of the Badlands and the “wit” to manage a complex inventory of building and agricultural supplies, we want to meet you.
In this role, you are the face of the yard. Our members rely on your expertise to help them select the right materials for their projects and your strength to get those materials safely into their trucks. Whether you are organizing a new shipment of lumber or ensuring the fence posts are perfectly merchandised, your attention to detail keeps our operation running smoothly. We value “Integrity-first” individuals who treat every guest with respect and ensure that our yard is the safest and cleanest in town.
Joining Valleyview Co-op means joining a team that values your growth and well-being. We offer a competitive hourly wage and a benefits package that supports you and your family. We provide a workplace where your hard work is recognized and where you can truly feel like a part of the Drumheller community. If you are a self-motivated professional with a valid license and a commitment to “Excellence in Service,” we invite you to apply and help us build a stronger community together.
Valleyview Co-op | Regional Agricultural & Retail Hub
It is important to note a common geographic distinction: Valleyview Co-op (formally Valleyview Consumers Co-op Ltd.) is a retail co-operative primarily serving Southwest Manitoba (Virden, Melita, Reston, etc.). While it shares the “Co-op” brand familiar to Albertans, it does not have physical storefronts within the city of Calgary.
For residents in Calgary, services are provided by Calgary Co-op, one of North America’s largest independent retail co-operatives. However, Valleyview Co-op is a major player in the Western Canadian Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) and interacts with the Alberta market through its agricultural and petroleum divisions.
Company Culture: “Truly Local, Truly Invested”
The culture at Valleyview Co-op is deeply rooted in the “prairie co-operative” tradition, where the business exists to serve its members rather than outside shareholders.
-
Community Ownership: The culture is built on the fact that 100% of profits stay in the community. This creates a high level of accountability and pride among staff, who often live in the small towns they serve.
-
Ag-Centric Expertise: Because a significant portion of their business is in crop supplies, feed, and fuel, the culture is “fluent in agriculture.” Many employees come from farming backgrounds, fostering a workplace that values practical knowledge and seasonal urgency.
-
Collaborative Spirit: In 2024-2025, Valleyview expanded its “shared operations” model (such as with Twin Valley Co-op for Ag equipment). This reflects a culture of cooperation over competition to ensure long-term sustainability for rural members.
-
Sustainability & Stewardship: The organization embeds environmental planning into its business, supporting local groups and charitable organizations that make the community a better place to live and work.
Location & Regional Reach
While headquartered in Virden, Manitoba, Valleyview Co-op’s influence extends into the broader Western Canadian logistics and agricultural network.
-
The Virden Admin Hub: Located at 191 7th Ave S, Virden, MB. This serves as the nerve center for their seven primary locations and their various petroleum and agro divisions.
-
Agricultural Network: They operate specialized Agro Centres and Crop Supplies facilities that are vital to the inter-provincial trade of seed, fertilizer, and livestock equipment across the prairies.
-
Petroleum & Fuel: Through their cardlock and bulk petroleum services, they are part of the critical infrastructure that keeps Western Canadian transport—including routes connecting to Calgary—running smoothly.
Core Business Divisions
| Division | Services Provided |
| Agro Centre | Feed, seed, crop protection, and cattle handling equipment. |
| Food Stores | Full-service grocery, including meat, seafood, and bakery departments. |
| Fuel & Petroleum | Gas bars, convenience stores, and cardlock locations for commercial fleets. |
| Home Centre | Hardware, building materials, and home renovation supplies. |
| Co-op Ag Equip | Shared specialized equipment services for modern farming operations. |
Member & Employee Benefits: “The Co-op Advantage”
-
Equity and Cash Back: Members receive a share of the profits based on their annual purchases. In “Equity Season,” millions are returned to the local economy.
-
Professional Unionized Environment: Many Valleyview Co-op roles are governed by collective agreements (such as UFCW Local 832), ensuring guaranteed wages, benefits, and a structured “Charter of Rights” on the job.
-
Career Diversity: Opportunities range from Agronomists and Petroleum Managers to Meat Cutters and Human Resource Advisors, offering a wide professional spectrum in a rural setting.
