Job Overview: Conflicts Analyst

Winston & Strawn LLP is seeking a meticulous and analytical Conflicts Analyst to join their Business Professional team in Houston. The position focuses on protecting the firm by identifying potential ethical or legal conflicts of interest before taking on new business or hiring lateral attorneys.


Key Responsibilities & Process Workflow

New Business & Lateral Intake

  • Evaluation: Review intake data from the Intapp Open system for accuracy and completeness.

  • Research: Perform deep-dive corporate research using internal and third-party databases to identify corporate family trees and potential sanctions.

  • Due Diligence: Conduct comprehensive client due diligence and sanction checks on potential new clients.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Search Execution: Independently perform Level 1 and 2 conflict searches across Firm databases.

  • Report Generation: Summarize complex search results into concise conflict reports to assist Partners, Conflict Attorneys, and Counsel in resolving potential issues.

  • System Testing: Participate in the review and testing of new conflict-clearing software.

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Communication: Provide high-level customer service to firm constituents, communicating findings in a confident and professional manner.

  • Escalation: Identify high-risk concerns and escalate them to senior Conflicts personnel or Legal Counsel.

  • On-Call Support: Participate in an after-hours and weekend “On-Call” rotation as managed by department leadership.

Qualifications & Requirements

Core Credentials

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or J.D. with strong academic performance.

  • Work History: At least 2+ years of professional work experience.

  • Experience (Preferred): Prior experience in conflicts, compliance, or analytical/corporate research in a legal or business setting.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word) and Adobe Acrobat is required; familiarity with Intapp products is a major plus.

  • Attributes: Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

  • Judgment: The ability to use sound judgment while maintaining a service-oriented mindset.

Working Model & Compensation

  • Location: Available as hybrid or fully remote, provided you reside within a commutable distance of the Houston office.

  • Salary: While specific Houston ranges weren’t listed, comparable roles in the firm’s other major markets range from $68,000 to $116,000 depending on geography and experience.
