NANA Management Services (NMS) is seeking a professional Barista to join their dining and beverage team in Anchorage. This role is primarily focused on supporting coffee operations within a campus environment, providing high-quality service to students, faculty, and visitors.

As an NMS Barista, you are responsible for the “full-cycle” café experience—from the technical craft of brewing specialty espresso drinks to maintaining the rigorous food safety standards required in a professional institutional setting.


Key Responsibilities & Daily Tasks

Specialty Beverage & Food Service

  • Drink Crafting: Expertly brew and prepare a variety of specialty coffee and tea beverages to established quality standards.

  • Food Prep: Handle light food preparation and assembly to support the café’s daily menu offerings.

  • Customer Inquiry Management: Act as a knowledgeable resource for guests, answering questions about ingredients, allergens, and flavor profiles.

Operations & Financials

  • Transaction Handling: Accurately manage cash and digital payments using a Point of Sale (POS) system, ensuring all financial records are precise.

  • Sanitation: Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting café environment. This includes deep-cleaning equipment and sanitizing service surfaces throughout the shift.

  • Multi-Site Support: Flexibility to work across various locations on the campus as needed to meet fluctuating student traffic.


Qualifications & Requirements

Core Experience

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.

  • Industry Tenure: Prior barista and cashier experience is highly preferred.

  • Certification: Must possess or be able to obtain the necessary Alaska Food Safety Certifications.

Physical & Professional Standards

  • Stamina: Ability to handle long shifts that involve a significant amount of standing and walking.

  • Strength: Must be able to lift and move supplies (typically up to 35 lbs) as part of daily stocking and setup.

  • Interpersonal: Strong communication skills and a “guest-first” attitude are essential for success in this community-focused role.

  • Certifications:

    • Food Service: Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card.

    • Security: Ability to obtain or possess an Alaska Security Guard License (requires being 18+, no felony convictions).

  • Requirements: Ability to pass a background check and, for healthcare sites, provide proof of required immunizations.

  • Physicality: Ability to stand/walk for 8-hour shifts and lift up to 50 lbs.
