Professional Job Summary

A Birmingham-based engineering firm specializing in pipes and fluid solutions is seeking a skilled Brazing Operative to join their manufacturing team. You will be responsible for assembling copper and brass components by setting up and operating brazing machines or robotic systems. This is a precision-oriented role that requires the ability to interpret technical drawings and maintain high quality-control standards. This position offers a stable career path for a motivated technician, with a “Temp-to-Perm” structure designed to lead to a permanent role upon successful completion of the trial period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Operation: Set up and operate specialized brazing machines and robotic equipment.

  • Precision Assembly: Perform brazing on copper and brass products to create finished fluid solution components.

  • Technical Interpretation: Work accurately from complex technical drawings to ensure components are assembled to exact specifications.

  • Quality Assurance: Maintain an uncompromising standard of quality, inspecting finished goods to ensure they meet engineering requirements.

  • Compliance: Adhere strictly to all Health & Safety (H&S) regulations and internal site procedures.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience in brazing is preferred.

  • Technical Ability: Ability to read and understand technical drawings is essential.

  • Reliability: A professional, safety-conscious mindset with the ability to maintain consistent production quality.

  • Adaptability: Comfort working in a manufacturing environment and following strict operational processes.

Working Hours & Benefits

  • Schedule: * Monday – Thursday: 07:00 – 16:00

    • Friday: 07:00 – 12:00

  • Perks: * Casual dress code.

    • On-site parking (B1 location).

    • Potential for a permanent contract (Temp-to-Perm).

Career Growth & Progression Path

  • Skilled Technician: Move from operating machines to full setup and maintenance of robotic brazing cells.

  • Quality Control Lead: Use your eye for detail to move into an inspection or QC role within the engineering department.

  • Production Management: Leverage your knowledge of the shop floor to progress into team leadership or shift supervision.

Interview Preparation Insights

  1. The “Technical” Check: Be prepared to discuss your experience reading technical drawings. If you have experience with specific alloys (copper/brass) or specific brazing temperatures/techniques, highlight that immediately.

  2. Quality Focus: In fluid solutions, a poor brazing joint can cause catastrophic failure. Be ready to explain how you ensure a “perfect” joint and what you do if you spot a flaw in your own work.

  3. Safety Culture: Brazing involves heat and pressurized gas. Emphasize your commitment to safety—mention any specific H&S certifications (e.g., COSHH awareness or fire safety) you might hold.

  4. Reliability: With an “Immediate Start” requirement, emphasize your availability and your ability to commit to the shift schedule consistently.
